My pics but not photographed by me as I'm horrible at photography. This is from Trivandrum zoo in India

To me, the gaur is much much taller, but not much difference in length compared to huge difference in height. From the back, the cape is built more wide than the gaur like its comparing a circle(buffalo) to an oval(gaur). The buffalo has shorter legs and a girthy neck while the gaur has long legs and thin neck. The gaur head is bigger than buffalo's head. Comparing them was like comparing a jaguar to a leopard. The jaguar is bigger than the leopard but the jaguar has a thin neck.

I don't how heavy these are. Both are bulls. There are bigger gaur bulls in that zoo.

@Hello :

At #739 it isn't the subject of this thread but you wrote " The jaguar is bigger than the leopard but the jaguar has a thin neck. "

Has the jaguar a thin neck ? Really ? Seriously I could say that the jaguar isn't longer than the leopard but overall on his body he is more massiv, bulkier than the leopard. The leopard is a danser, the jaguar a wrestler.

As concerns gaur and buffalo... Compared with buffalos, gaurs inhabit dense jungles, their morphology must allow them to "circulate" through a dense vegetation, thus they are more built in height than in width. And for completing this adaptation, their horns are much less massiv than the buffalo's ones.

Yes, I know measurement wise jaguars exceed leopard in neck girth. Yes jaguars (130 kg) are stronger, bigger and bulkier than leopards (100 kg). I was talking in relation to their body girth. In my opinion, For a Jaguar's body girth, it has appears to have thin neck. While leopards appears to have thicker necks without their dewlap for their less bulky body even when jaguars exceed in neck girth. This is not an actual comparison but I can see leopards having thicker necks for their bodies, even without their dewlaps if they were scaled to same size. I personally think not all leopards are dancers, some very large males appear very stocky and bulky and such large animals have sluggish gait and don't have agility that females possess. Not just leopards but all large,bulky cats have sluggish gait.

@Spalea as you can see the leopard has a huge neck in relation to its body. Even the biggest and bulkiest jaguars don't have neck this thick.

I don't think it's necessary to create a new topic about big herbivors interaction, but I just come to discover this comic one. At first an adult hippo seems to intimidate a jung rhino, but when an adult comes, two against one, the physionomy of the interaction isn't longer the same at all.

Today is international Markhor day. Footage of Pakistan's national animal, the Markhor, captured by SLF (Snow Leopard Foundation) in Pakistan. An absolutely stunning image of a Markhor in Turkmenistan.
