This video is from that dental operation, interesting to watch overall. Same video which I shared also in big cat vocalization thread, because this includes some snarling of really angry lion.

I wrote them a while back and they said their cats are between 190-210kg

Write again and ask specifically about Gandalf, it would be interesting to see what they say. I wrote to [email protected] .

Dear Jared,

Thank you for your interest shown in our lions.

Aslan’s operation was a success thank you and I am sure he is in a lot less pain having had his teeth repaired.

They were on average between 190 kg and heaviest if I recall was 210 kg.

No not really difference in the tawny vs white

Best Wishes,
Mandy

I spoke with Mandy, she said the heaviest was 210kg.
Feel free to ask if Mandy, that's his wife I believe.
It's the same email address

She replied to me too. But did you get reply after 2014 operation or 2015?
The response was from Oct. 2016

Ok, then I guess, that need to write once again. In her reply to you there is some uncertainty. I mean "if I recall" part. I asked now twice very directly if Gandalf is really 250 kg, but since there is so big contradiction, hopefully this can be clarified.
She may not know for certain, may be you can ask to contact the Vet?
I'm sure he/she would be interesting to talk to.

Yes, they had that same team there in both times, most likely they have all information still recorded in some way. One thing seems to be clear though, Gandalf is their biggest lion. And again a good example, that being sure demands time to time more than one time contact. At least this is a good reason to ask again, which she for sure understands when explaining.

Here is what I wrote, when I wanted to double check:

"Hi Mandy, so he is then legit 250 kg lion. That is impressive, I hope that he do well and hopefully his nails are good too :) I watched video which showed part of his treatment."

And this was her reply, which I shared earlier too:

"Yes, it is true and he is well."

When I look at that now, maybe I should have wrote also second time in different way and asking what was exact weight in records.... in that way replying just "yes" wouldn´t have been an option even if she was busy. Hopefully this can be cleared tomorrow and we have some exact weight for him.

I think the weight range 190-210kg is of the lions that kevin richardson interacts with, vayetsi being the heaviest at 210kg.Gandalf and some other lions he doesn't interact with as they wilder i guess.

Big non-obese maneless lions(castrated) from Orana Wildlife Park, Christchurch.Staff member mentions the weight to be over 250 kilos with one of them weighing 270 kilos, they even say that by castrating the energy that usually goes into growing big mane instead goes into making them larger.I personally think their frame is larger than usual. What do you guys think about this?

You can notice the large head of the lion at 2:27

Staff member mentions the weight at 0:35.Also castration/size relation is mentioned at 3:39.

I got now new reply from Mandy. She said, that 190-210 kg sounds more familiar for her. But she wasn´t sure about weight of Gandalf and if he is heavier. And she didn´t have records to check that weight at the moment. She then again confirmed it, that Gandalf is a very big lion, she actually used words extremely big to describe him.

Maybe it´s a good idea to ask from veterinarians, who did those dental treatments, if they still have notes with weights of the treated lions.

It was good, that you had been in contact there too and mistake was avoided. I´ll try to get information from Fixodent.

They look like normal sized Lions, when you castrate them the testosterone isn't produced and thus muscle mass is lost and the cats tend to put on weight/fat.
They also become even more lazy and their lack of energy also contributes to a cat becoming overweight.

Think about it in a human perspective, when men stop producing testosterone it's much harder to put on muscle mass and your energy is lost on top of other issues too.

Of course males are larger than females, but are they as larger as in this case? is the question.

No, not yet. At least I haven´t got reply yet but I´ve sent email to organization, which participated to that big dental treatment operation. Sometimes it takes a bit time to get replies. But I think, that it won´t be as big as Aslan from Kristiansand zoo, who is a truly exceptional lion. I haven´t found so far any fit big cat bigger than him in captivity, which I would take seriously. I´ve found only two tigers as big as him. This is of course how I see it, some others have different kind of opinions. I´m quite skeptical and count in only weights which some credible source confirms as weighed, not estimated. So some poster writing something in some forum isn´t for me enough if there is nothing to really back it up. A 250 kg big cat can easily be estimated to be 300 kg, they are absolutely huge and anyone can make mistake, when seeing a tiger or lion that big and many have done those mistakes.

I think Nkosi from givskud zoo might have matched his weight. That lion was huge compared to lionesses there.

And what about this lion from ree park safari.@Pantherinae said lion weighed 280 kg.He also looks huge.
