It mostly referred to the Asian lions, since it was the native lion population in the Middle East where all the Abrahamic religions originated from. Maybe the ancient Middle Easterners also used to import some African lions from Africa, but the Asian lions should be more prevalent in general. RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Ba Ba Lou - 12-23-2016 Gamiz Look at a map of the Asiatic lion's former habitat and you'll see the Asiatic lion's former range was Bible lands, so the lion spoken of in the Bible is definitely Asiatic lion RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Tshokwane - 12-23-2016 (12-22-2016, 09:09 AM)Gamiz Wrote: In the Bible there are references of both the African lion and the Asian lion. Where? I never noticed any difference. RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Tshokwane - 01-06-2017 Credits to Tapan D. Sheth. The lion heart tracker behind the king. This lion seem a bit too dangerously habituated to people on foot, like it has lost the natural fear wild lions have of humans. Is this common? The lion heart tracker behind the king. In the Gir it is very common, it remains to be seen if it's good or bad. But as of now, I hear very little in regards to human/lion conflict. RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - sik94 - 02-23-2017 That's surprising, seems like a safety issue to me if they are doing safari tours in there. RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Pckts - 02-23-2017 To be honest I don't know enough about the Gir and it's dynamic with tourists and villagers to have an answer for you one way or the other. I just know that they have patrols on foot as well as other means and it's quite unusual but seems to be working. RE: Asiatic Lions - Data, Pictures and Videos - Rishi - 02-23-2017 More or less disproves the "Thapar Theory", which claims that A siatic lion originated from mughal-imported East-African ferals...If they were, crossbreeding would have bolstered genes & not crumble it. Quote:Feeble roar of the hybrid lions The two subspecies diverged around 80,000 to 100,000 years ago. Mitochondrial DNA analysis indicated that Asian lions underwent a population bottleneck about 10,000 years ago at the end of the Pleistocene ice age (Menotti-Raymond, MA and O'Brien, SJ, Proc National Acad Sci USA, 1993, 90, 3172-3176) which reduced the population to only a few breeding individuals. Also, here's a proper painting of Indian lion during those times, where the lions look pretty similar to Asiatic lions today, not Africans..even got the telltale baldness & bellyfold. ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author
