Throwback Tuesday….on a Wednesday!!

An image of Sassy and her 3 cubs from May 2021. Here, you can see how she had a little runtie. This might explain the difference in size in one of the three girls still alive today that some had hoped was one of Junior Mom’s daughters.

This smaller female is most likely the one ID as the floppy eared girl in the ID cards above.

It is absolutely amazing, these girls are what, around 20 months old, already been by themselves for a few months, meaning they weren't even 18 months old when they ended up alone, yet they continue to provide for themselves, and have had at least one confrontation with a clan of hyenas in which the Othawas growled at and got aggressive with the hyenas. Not to mention, while still with Sassy but I am not sure if they were even 1 year old at this point, they actually took a kill from the Manghenis.

Some will call it luck, some perhaps age induced naivete', no matter how you label it, it is certainly an amazing story so far, and not even 2 years old yet.

Great old sighting of the Ottawa aunties defending their pride. Someone said females can’t do anything without males to provide strong decisions. They just have not spent too much time with lions. Lionesses here and everywhere are running the show, fighting and dying for their prides while (many times) males skip town. RIP aunties, you were amazing warriors.

Does anyone know which Sabi Sand Reserve executed the "euthanasia" used on Sassy Othawa?

Was it Inyati?

It seems to me that this would be an important fact to document.

For what purpose?

I don't think the individual reserves have that kind of authority, this would've come from the Sabi Sands management

Oh Yes, the original statement that was put out by the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) regarding the euthanization of Sassy Othawa indicates that the Sabi Sand Reserve Management was definitely involved in this decision.

See Post #559 in this thread to read the statement put out by the NSPCA Wildlife Protection Unit in regards to Sassy Othawa's euthanization.

Just to clarify, I am wondering if anyone knows for sure which reserve the euthanization of Sassy took place on... Was it Inyati or was it another reserve?
