History's most brutal killers, the Majingilane Male Lions

It's hard to belive that some rangers witness an encounter between two male lion coalitions and no photo or video have been taken.

What is clear as day is that if this was the other way around, and the rangers had reported two Birminghams chasing 3 Majingilane, none of you would bat an eye at it, in fact you'd be shoving it to my face with all the classic "the Majingilane are cowards when they are not outnumbering their opponents" rethoric.

@Georgel you go and cry in a corner.

Last week when Nkorho seemed to contradict Elephant plains, their word was God's gospel, because it suited you.

But now, of course, since their response is not what you, and it seems of many more, expected, you're complaining about them. And also, keeping away important information, because I'm sure if they had told you the opposite, you'd had share it muuuch more quickly.

I'm very happy that the old lads are triggering some weak minds by their actions.

One thing to note, that I read just now, is that Hip scar seems to be weak this days, I guess he spent too much time without a meal and got as bit weaker.

Idube commented that it is not as bad as it was last year, when he was extremely skinny, but that he is weaker than he was this last time, that he seemed to be ok.

I hope he packs a couple of meals together and recovers quickly.

Hi Fursan.

Peter told me that it was the name of a big lion killed in Southafrica. I didn't find the story, but I did found out tshokwane is the name of a region in the Kruger park, I think the Old Mazithi males lived there.

The reason for the name change is nothing more than to prevent trouble. I know a lot of people who come here are Mapogo fans, and my name seemed to add fuel to the flames.

I know name changing is something Sanjay asked against of in the rules, but to prevent the mentioned problem, I changed the name.

Exactly dude. If this is true, then it is an amazing sighting. An older, aging colation (only 2) scared off 3 younger, bigger and stronger lions. I find it hard to believe that no on quickly pulled out a cellphone and took even blurry pictures as proof. But hey, the manjingis fans are eating it up, so I believe they(the rangers) accomplished something.

We will be getting something clear early on.

I don't like this kind of disrespect.

These are people that work there for a living, not some random guys reading this sitting comfortably with a computer.

Personal agendas are something they do not follow, so it's the most blatant disrespect to even suggest they want to get something out of it.

If the report was the opposite, none of you would be having doubts, but since it doesn't suit you, you do.

In his great book 'Wildlife in South Africa' (first published in 1947 - I have the Panther edition published in 1957), Lt.Col. J. Stevenson-Hamilton, a former Warden of the Kruger National Park, wrote about the extreme cunning and caution often displayed by old male lions accustomed to being hunted:

" ... The most outstanding instance of this ... was that of a lion known to the natives as 'Tshokwane', because they all believed he was the incarnation, or at any rate directed by the spirit of an old headman of that name, who had some reputation during his life as a tagati or wizard.

His beat was always within an area of some fifty square miles in the neighbourhood of the camp which I annually occupied for three months every year for the sole purpose of hunting lions, and a great deal of my time was occupied, during three or four seasons, in the endeavour to get to terms with him. The natives said he was as big and black as a Buffalo, and on the few occasions in which I had a glimpse of him, he certainly appeared to me to be much the largest lion I had ever seen. His spoor measured eight inches in diameter, which is something out of the common. However, in spite of the best of trackers, an intimate knowledge of the country, a fair amount of personal experience, and a keen desire to add his splendid trophy to my collection, he beat me first, last, and all the time.

He was usually accompanied by some full-grown, but younger lion, and when his companion was killed, as happened several times, he always seemed able to collect another almost immediately. No doubt his great sagacity and experience were invaluable in hunting, and there was a fair division of labour; 'Tshokwane' doing the planning both in aggression against game and in avoidance of danger, while the younger animal undertook the more strenuous part of the actual hunting.

His selection of day lairs was always characterized by foresight. He never chose a place where surprise would be easy, and his scout was usually stationed at an outpost. His favourite spot was at the top of a high flat-topped hill, covered with large boulders and loose stones, but with rather steep sides, from which a perfect view could be got all over the surrounding country and over which it was impossible to make a quiet approach ... " (pp. 208-209).

Stevenson-Hamilton never got an opportunity to fire a shot at 'Tshokwane'. He didn't regret it:

" ... Although these were the only occasions on which I ever caught sight of this great lion, I actually had followed him without result on dozens of hunts and had shot a succession of his assistants. The natives, of course, said that as he was a tagati, I would never get him, and this made me ... all the more keen to do so; but had I succeeded, I think I would have been rather sorry on the whole, for so much cleverness and reasoning power deserved the success it actually achieved ... (pp. 211).

A year after his last attempt, the bones of a very large lion were found in the Lebombo Hills. Steven-Hamilton thought that they were of old 'Tshokwane':

" ... Whether he had died of old age or whether he had met his end otherwise I was never able to determine; but am inclined to think that he met with some accident ... " (pp. 211).

In the last weeks, we've seen problems in different lion threads. As it resulted in complaints and a bad climate, we decided to do something about it. The advice of our mod was ignored in most cases. Not seldom his name was used to sideline him out of hand. It resulted in more complaints. In order to call it a day, posters involved in all kinds of battles were contacted. It had no effect. I wrote a post directed at you about it. Zilch. Than I wrote a post in the Rules Section. Also zero effect.

As the lack of action encouraged others, it was decided to change the policy. Yesterday, three posters were banned. You could have known about it, as you visit the forum quite often.

In spite of what happened, you continued in the way you did. Just a bit of good humour, one could say. But humour also depends on circumstances. Your post was considered as another attempt to ridicule the lion mod. It also shows you are not really bothered by the events of the last weeks. This is the reason your post qualified for a ban.

I don't understand why not a few lion posters keep going at it, but we're done with it. If you want to use incidents not seldom ending in a tragic way to do a few jokes and challenges, use social media. This is a forum. And a business. We want good info and a climate enabling good debates, not something else. If the situation doesn't improve, a number of threads will be closed.

so far we have a photographer saying that she heard from some rangers that the 4 Majingilane chased 3 Birmingham Boys off their kill.
First of all it is impossible to be 4 Majingilane because Hip Scar and another one were deep in the west.

I think the whole story is just an attempt to create heated discussions between Lion fans, i.e us.
Probably it did not happen at all.

There were some problems with the debates and quarrels "animal x versus animal y" , two different species with the animals x fans and the animals y fans (interspecific fights). Now there are the debates and quarrels between the pride A fans of the animal x and the pride B fans of the animal x. As well as two football teams.

Next step ?
