Unusual behavior of lions.

Other carnivores are also fair game to leopards. While lions may invest a great deal of energy in killing fellow predators, their motivation seems more to eliminate competition than to acquire food, and they frequently leave such kills untouched.

Is a well known fact that leopard attacks on other carnivores are predatory attacks, not resource disputes.

@Pckts :

About #410: Is it a striped hyena, not a spotted hyena, isn't ?

I wouldn't have believd that a lone striped hyena was able to threaten a leopard, perhaps a little bit jung, enough to oblige it to climb, to find refuge, onto a tree...

Nevertheless amazed photo !

The first account was actually 2 Hyenas, the Leopard charged at the one but once the 2nd joined, the leopard escaped to the cliffs edge, the 2nd account is a single Hyena that tree'd the leopard.
You know how the wild goes, sometimes they fight and other times they flee, no 2 accounts are ever the same.
Even though Brown and Striped Hyena are smaller and not as formidable as their Spotted cousins, I've still seen them put up good fights when they have to.

About #411: Honestly and frankly, I underestimated the brown hyena. Thank to the 2 videos you posted, I see they are good warrior too.

This is a thread about leopards and lions interacting with eachother. These two apex predators are eternal enemies and it's really interesting to see how unpredictable these outcomes are.

when the Leopard scared the crap out of a Hyena.."

It is not so common to see them clash especially since a Leopard usually climbs up a tree and somehow manages to escape.
It is rarer for them to have a stand off for a good fifteen minutes or so and what is even more uncommon is to see a female subadult hold her ground and scare away a Hyena.

So ladies and gentlemen, here is Jhalana for you. The soul of the park, Juliet the Leopard and the oh-so-mischievous Sparky the Hyena.

It was a normal safari with Hemant Bhaiya that turned wild (pun intended) with this sighting. The bold Leopard walking alongside the jeep, chasing numerous Peafowls all the way; filling the jungle with alarm calls and flighting calls. It was indeed the fruition of patience that Hemant Bhaiya had and the gut feeling I had as soon as I entered the park today..

Day before yesterday, in an Indian village called Katarnia on northern side of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary along Nepal border, a tiger swam across a river straight into the village in broad daylight... probably to lift cattle.

Then something amazing happened! A few young kids were right in its path & a pair of stray dogs from the village valiantly charged the tiger as they ran away.
The big cat wasn't looking for trouble & slinked back into the jungle before more people gathered.

The dogs are known to work as the villages' security system, detecting predators & raising an alarm. But this is rare.

The emotion that prevents the guy to hold firmly his mobil phone... And the danger too, of course. And this, right in the middle of shouts, animals and people running.

In July 11th at 5.30pm two of the breakaway lionesses had a fight with an old male leopard near the wooded area in marsh, the lioness was Jicho and we think she fought the leopard because he got a bit too close to her cubs who were nearby. The leopard and lion fought until the leopard scrambled up a tree with Jicho in pursuit. Jicho didnt get very far up the tree and the leopard then indignantly pee'ed on her from above.  Jicho got a scratch on the left side of her neck which was from the leopards front pad claw, this will heal in time. Despite the age of this Leopard who had worn out lower canines he gave Jicho a good run.
