There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Do you think this is a healthy, Well fed average tiger?.. Or a sick, underfed tiger who has health problems and is probably a rescue?

Nope, his hip looks deformed, probably due the malnutrition.

A captive tiger such as we can often see in the (bad) zoos with emaciated flanks. A lot of captive tigers, getting old, have this condition: they suffer from the pelvis.

This tiger is not mistreated (the fur has neither bedsores, nor grazes). On the other hand its food certainly unbalanced, always the same. And above all this tiger is boring to death. The aim of the zoo is also to distract and entertain his animals. Apparently this tiger doesn't never see its keepers except for taking food or changing cage.

It is getting bored, all the day long. I think it comes to depression.

I emailed the vet at tiger world (The founder Responded) and she said thor is strong, healthy, and has no health issues and is not skinny at all. She says the tiger is a rescue, And was rescued as a cub. They say Thor receives tons of enrichment like all the other animals.
I asked if the tiger was neutered, But they never answered the question. Ill ask again.
I am not expecting them to admit that there is something wrong with the tiger tho. But they did mention another tiger that has stomach problems and is skinny. They also sent a pic of Thor with a tiger.

I usually find captive tigers overweight or lean to underweight. I do remember @Amnon242 mentioning a while back there is a race of Amur tigers in captivity that are really lean. The truly muscularly built feline is hard to find in captivity, no matter the species. There simply isn't the same type and amount of activity one would expect of a top carnivore in the wild.

I unfortunately see a lot of cats like this in zoos or other facilities. Even though, this cat is not in extremely poor condition, as I have seen tigers much thinner then this. What facility is this just out of curiosity? My guess is that he is an old male.

The tigers name is thor, And the sanctuaries name is Tiger World. I emailed the vet there, But the founder of the sanctuary answered. They said he is a 5 year old, healthy strong tiger with no health problems and is not skinny. I asked if he was neutered at all and she responded saying Thor is 'intact' and was rescued as a cub from a USDA confiscation. She also states that thor receives a lot of enrichment. But i am not too convinced tho Sad i have never personally seen a tiger like that.. My friends been there last month, And he also complained about Thor, He says Thor is literally a skeleton. (If you want the video, here: https://youtu.be/OeDbI7ZjlSI ) If you want screenshots of the email PM me.

I'm not really liking this sanctuary tho. https://bigcatrescue.org/tiger-world-fka...iolations/ http://911animalabuse.com/tiger-world/

Amur tigress. Breeder told me that she was weighted and that she was around 170 kg (but he was not sure about that). What I saw was a classical amur tigress 140 - 150 kg...
