There is also a rumor that Jai has been sighted but it is far from confirmed and most are waiting for real verification before celebrating.

Sarosh Lodhi

This post is to clear the misunderstanding regarding sighting of Jai, male tiger from UKWLS, in forests of Adilabad, Telangana.
The news is not authentic as there is no full proof evidence of sighting of this tiger.
As per the DFO of Adilabad, 2 rangers sighted a tiger around the 14th of Dec, which had made some goat kills in the area. It was late in night and positive identification with certainty was not possible. They couldnt ascertain if it was collared or not. Since it was dark, they are not even sure if it was a male or a female.
The area of this sighting is close to Tipeshwar, some 4-5 kms away and as such it could have easily been a tiger from that forest.
With no positive ID, no collar or gender confirmation and no camera trap images, it cannot be confirmed if the sighted tiger was Jai.
We know that every one is waiting with bated breath for Jai to resurface again and we would be extremely glad if it happens in future.
We request our members not to post this news on the forum as it is creating misconception and misunderstanding amongst the members.

"Once buzzing with tourists, the kuchha roads of Umrer Karhandla remain deserted these days. With not much sightings of the sub adults of Jai, not many tourists are choosing this park which has resulted in lower revenue for the stake holders.
Hope that the sightings improve soon so that the locals are not in any kind of trouble making their ends meet.
Jan 2016 | Jai's son from T6| UKWLS"

May is not the preferred month to be in India especially central & north, even the tigers are not going to be in good shape, I hope you've done your research well.

this tiger that you posted from Satpura camera trap is Singham of Bandhavgarh, I heard he was transferred to Satpura tiger reserve to boost the tiger population of the park and just last year, he was killed by poachers (August/2015), they nabbed the poachers after a month long investigation. please check the stripes

here's the news article

Satpura radio-collared tiger killed for witchcraft

BHOPAL: After month-long investigation, Special Task Force (STF) of Madhya Pradesh forest department confiscated a hide of radio-collared tiger, which was poached in Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) in August. STF concluded in its report submitted to forest department on Monday that big cat was killed for 'sorcery'. Thirteen people, including a government school teacher of Chhindwara district were arrested over a period of a month. The tiger was shifted from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to Satpura two years ago.

During interrogation, accused confessed the tiger was killed for witchcraft by school teacher Ram Kishore and others under influence of a sorcerer, Sitararam Chouhan, who promised them he can make fast money by performing rituals sitting on a tiger skin. "All fell into a trap and killed the big cat by poisoning it's kill," said a forest officer.

Principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) Narendra Kumar told TOI, "We confirmed the hide belonged to radio-collared tiger translocated from Bandhavgarh reserve."

Poachers not only killed the animal, but also extracted oil from its fat for using it as remedy for joint aches and erectile dysfunction, sources said.

In a joint operation two months ago, STF of forest department and Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) confiscated two bottles of suspected tiger fat oil from poachers' network. Oil was seized from Srivas of Sakhai village in Hoshangabad and Yunus from Itarsi. Both were arrested along with 10 others during a month-long operation.

Samples have been sent to Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, and Wildlife Health Monitoring Centre (WHMC), Jabalpur, for DNA tests. Teams have been dispatched to Delhi and other areas for more arrests in the poaching case. Besides oil, officials have sent bone samples for verification.

Inputs on killing of tiger surfaced during interrogation of a gang of pangolin poachers arrested by STF officials from Sakai village last week, which is located in the tiger reserve's core area.

Thirteen people, including a former village sarpanch were arrested during routine patrolling by forest guards. Spear and pangolin scales were seized from them.

During interrogation, one of the accused told STF officials they also killed a tiger by poisoning its kill near Sakai village and it had a radio collar. Officials suspect poachers are connected to an international poaching syndicate with roots in MP, UP and Maharashtra.
