@Apollo :

About #1219: excellent hunt yes ! Especially as we often read the felids pay attention where they lay their paws, taking care of their foot pads. Here this hunt happened on a very stony soil.

Hunt goes wrong, wild boars kill tiger!
Apr 3, 2018

BHOPAL: An adult tiger has been killed in a fight with a wild boar in Balaghat district, taking the toll of big cat deaths to nine in four months.

The 6-year-old tiger’s carcass was spotted in Balaghat’s Logur range — on the Kanha-Pench corridor — late Saturday night and it was recovered on Sunday. Initially, forest officials suspected the tiger was electrocuted or poisoned, but no such evidence was found during autopsy. “Fight with wild boars seems to be only reason as we have found boar hair and faecal samples on the spot,” said an officer. DFO Deva Prasad told TOI that the matter is still under investigation. “Wild boars could be the reason,” said the officer.

Wild boars are very aggressive and fiercely defend themselves.
Weighing upto over 150kg, they use their formidable skull as a battering ram and come armed with sharp tusks.

Balaghat is one of the non-protected areas in Kanha-Pench corridor where density of both tiger and prey is comparatively high.
This region is also one of the World Wildlife Fund — India TX2 sites, which aims at doubling the number of tigers in the wild by 2020.

"Queen of Kabini" - #PastLegends #LostLegends
Famously known as the Backwater female, This tigress was code numbered as NHT-L-114 by a WCS team of researchers, this gorgeous tigress aged around 8-9years old held the title of being then "Queen of backwaters" which was tranqulized to death in January 2017, the tigress was nursing a litter of 3cubs that time which were around 3/4months old, unfortunately the cubs couldn't survive in the wild due to starvation as their mother was no more, the carcass of all the cubs were found a few days later.
The Experience behind the making of this image of this legendary tigress a couple of months before she died:
The mystical winters of Kabini are magical, The winters had arrived, temperatures dropped, that morning the air was cold with lots of fog & dew around which made the forest look even more beautiful & I had every reason to fall more n more in love with the smell of the fresh air, silence of the woods & the wilderness.
We embarked on the morning safari, with carefully checking for any cat movement on the 5km road of Nagarhole tiger reserve with no luck, our driver & naturalist decide to check & head towards EPT (Elephant proof trench) which divides the forest from human habitation.
As we carefully continued our drive 20odd mins into the safari we hear strong alarm call of a peacock & our heart beat skipped.

Hearing a alarm call while you are near EPT is always special as your on the fringes of the forest which separates the forests from human civilization, we stopped the Jeep turning off the engine with pin drop silence, making sure which direction to head & started again, we followed towards the peacocks alarm call which was astonishing,
The light was low as the winters had arrived, heavily fogged & visibility less than 200 meters as we slowly moved ahead keeping our eyes & ears wide open and we stuck GOLD,
"TIGER TIGERR TIGERRRR".... whispered our naturalist & to our luck we saw this beautiful Tigress stalking right on the safari track, but to our surprise we had no clue what she was stalking as we couldn't see any prey from our naked eyes, with less than a minute after we spotted her she jumped across the EPT & made a kill & it was a group of wild boars.
Within seconds we hear the wild boar cry for life & other wild boars run for their lives we were assured that the tigress had made a kill, it was now just a matter of time for the tigress to come out with the kill, our naturalist was absolutely sure that it would come out sooner than expected, with our engine off, fingers crossed, pin drop silence, my eyes in the view finder of the camera & BANG...... there came this beautiful lady after a few minutes of making the kill,
She jumped across into the forest again with a wild boar kill for herself, dragging it, She stops on the track gives us a glimpse & vanishes into the thick foliage of the woods giving us memories for a lifetime !!

Today's morning was fully action packed. First Pack of Wild Dogs chased a Male Chital & he has no choice to jump into Telia dam. But Chital not escape from his death as three Crocodiles follow him & finally dragged him in deep water to death. But they also not able to eat that Chital as Sonam watching this entire drama from bank & after dead Chital came back on water she enter in it and drag out for her cubs.
