Safari roadblock! These two male lions were found resting on an open area this morning. Whilst viewing them, they decided to get up and escape the heat of the morning by taking cover in the shadow cast by our vehicle.

From Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve:
"After a very warm day yesterday, we watched two male lions yawn and groom each other before moving off in search of a herd of buffalo bulls that were seen earlier in the day."

@Ngala :

About #707: these beautiful photos remind me a very good film released in 1976 by Gerard Vienne "La griffe et la dent" (french movie), i.e. "The claw and the tooth/fang".

The particularity of this film: absolutely no one human comment (you can see the movie without taking account its origin). The sequences of night are the most important, it's perhaps one of the first wild animals movie happening during the night. And that, in the african savannah. Some incongruous sound (squeaking door, clatter of saucepans...) effects are going with the scenes . But, I insist, clearly a beautiful movie.

Who knew that one flick of a lustrous golden mane could cast such beauty upon the surrounding landscape. A lion in the middle of thickets certainly makes for a beautiful image. This is one of the Mbiri male lions, a powerful young male lion that oozes charm. His strength, confidence and suave looks are admiral qualities in a male lion.

The two Mbiri males haven't gone unnoticed by the female felines of the area, and they're often spotted enjoying the company of the Ross Pride Lionesses. Jan Pienaar captured a few images of this beauty sniffing the air and shaking his mane free from flies. So regal!

From: Imbali Safari Lodge Dec 21 2017
MLUWATI CONCESSION LION UPDATE:

During the early morning hours of the 21st of December there was a confrontation between the two Matimba males and the three Avoca males, close to Imbali Safari Lodge. It does not look good for the Matimbas as we only found one on of them on the morning drive and he was badly injured. Not far away lay the three Avoca males, with no apparent injuries. On the evening of the 21st, the injured Matimba was not seen again and the three Avocas still lay in the same place. They were later heard calling and seen drinking at the Imbali waterhole, before moving off. A full story will follow once we know the fate of the Matimbas.

It happened near Imbali Lodge, in Kruger. People on facebook are saying at least one matimba is dead. Most likely HB. I don't know if any of this is trustworthy though.

The young Avoca males were originally a coalition of 6 young males, but they split into 2 groups 1 of 3, and 1 of 2. 3 young  avoca males are imbali now and  the other 2 avoca males are in Sabi Sabi.

@Fredymrt They are sired by Older Avoca/Giraffe males in Timbavati. The 2 slightly older ones were kickedout of the pride earlier and those two are the ones in sabisands now
The three slightly younger (May be 3-6 months younger) ones were kicked out later and they went in other directions.
Those 3 recently attacked Scorro of Thanda Impi males as well.
Now they had a confrontation with Matimbas as well.

The older Avoca/Giraffe coalition is still in Timbavati going strong... having couple of prides with them

As far as I know, the two tsalala prides have reunited and the 3 cubs sired by the matimbas were abandoned(after the younger female and 2 cubs disappeared) by the older lioness since they won't be accepted by the other tsalala pride.

As far i know two tsalalas had cubs with matimbas. One of them 3 and another 2 or 3 i think. One of them was killed by bboys. So 4 or 5 cubs were abandoned. Where they are? They are all dead?

As far as I know the Old Avoca/Giraffe Males attack Thanda Impi multiple times, but Thanda Impi always survive, and untill now, none of their attacks has caused serious damage for Thanda Impi. In fact, last year (when Sizanani still healthy) the two Thanda Impi gang up the bigger old Avoca Male, and perhaps the leader in Avoca/Giraffe Coalition.
But, the three young Avoca Males is different, several months ago they attack Scorro and made her serious injured.
