Ignore the ridiculous "females showing the males who's boss" of the driver. Women love to believe in their own fantasies and go from being overprotective, to the gu gu-ga ga voice they reserve for the kids(or cubs in this case) and then to trying to make us men/lions to behave, as if that is going to happen sometime in their life time...
Rather, I want you to concentrate on the action between the males. At first is not clear what's happening, but I think it's a simple case of one of the females being in oestrus and two of the males showing interest in her, with one of them guarding her. Another one gets in the action as well, but I think the 1 vs 1 fight of later is between males #3 and #4, with #3 being the one that wins. I'm asking around in the groups to know who's the third male.
For all that lions look good in pictures, I think this is were is the beauty of them. To see their huge, muscled bodies moving at such speed and, at the same time, how quickly their interests change, turning against one another when their cause is no longer the case, as it happens with #3 and #4 fighting each other after attacking together the third male.
Enjoy, with the volume up, please.
yes watched this early this morning, incredible footage such an unexpected scene. was really hard to understand what was happening. Glad it all settled down.
Seemed like one of the females was possibly in oestrus like you said, as later the male was lying with her (amber eyes) and she looked like she wanted to be with remainder of the pride.
I was under the impression they were all bham boys, looked like blondie was teamed up on.
This is what i was asking the other day, about who the fathers are, how the prides interact etc. As it may be that one of the boys approached the pride who the other two males are spending more time with? Really hard to understand/follow all the dynamics?
i think because of the cubs being present the commotion hit that level of heights!
After moving on, we found the lions again, this time with two buffalo kills, they were feeding veraciously. The large males would not let the females near the kill and the occasional a fight broke out between them. One of the males was covered in dark blood and the early morning sunlight glistened in the blood. Our guests captured some truly special and spectacular photos of him and the other lions.
