Yeah its probably an injury from fight over lionesses with his brothers. Its unlikely that other males or prides caused this.

The Darkmaned one of the 4 Young Shishangaans. This one is such a Xihamham Jr, the only one of the 4 to resemble their grumpy father.

From what i saw, he is also the grumpiest of the 4, also believed to be one of the most dominant ones.
