How Casper, the famous white lion, looks after a hard-earned meal.

The pride took down a buffalo a couple of weeks ago; this was the aftermath.

Amazing sighting!

How many of their Satara cubs are alive? How many cubs do they have in the Nsemani Pride? Ages?

Last or one of the last videos dated from 2 days about Casper and its brothers.

" Filmed on the 25th of June 2024 next to the S100 close to Satara Rest Camp in Kruger National Park.
Casper the White Lion and his Shishangaan brothers have been leading the Satara Lion Pride for nearly five years. As they turn ten years old in 2024, they have managed to hold their territory near the Satara Rest Camp in Kruger National Park without facing significant challenges from other lions. Despite nearing the end of their lifespan, they are still frequently seen with the Satara Pride, including two young lion cubs. However, with many young male lions nearby looking to take over a pride, it's uncertain how much longer they can maintain control as the Shishangaan brothers begin to show signs of aging.

How old were the Shishangaan brothers when they took over their first pride? Did they displace any males?
also how big is Satara pride? They only have two cubs?

Casper is ten years old, yes ! Happy birthday !

" Casper the White Lion, alongside his Shishangaan brothers, marked a significant milestone as they celebrated their tenth birthday. The festivities began with a grand feast, consisting of a zebra they had hunted the previous night. This communal meal was a testament to their prowess and the strong bond they share.
After satiating their hunger, Casper and a lioness made their way down to the river for a refreshing drink. They were soon joined by one of Casper's brothers, all three basking in the serene atmosphere of the Kruger National Park. With their bellies full and their spirits high, it was a moment of peace and contentment.
Not one to ignore his admirers, Casper then took a leisurely walk down the road, acknowledging the tourists who had come to witness the majesty of the white King on his special day. His regal presence and the awe he inspired were palpable, making the day memorable for all who were there.
We extend our heartfelt wishes to Casper the White Lion and his Shishangaan brothers, hoping for many more years of health, strength, and adventure. Happy Birthday, Casper!

Great looking fella. Saw that his mother is unfortunately on her way out as she's separated herself from the pride recently.

Do we have any recent information abt the young Shish's offspring? It feels they've been dominannt for a while so they must have sired a lot of cubs

It's amazing, but I believe they've only sired a few surviving offspring with that pride!  I read some comments from Youtube videos that they have not been very successful as pride males, certainly not in the league of their sires, not even close.  They've had cubs suddenly disappear very often.  They even lost out on their hold over the Nsemani Pride, so they have focused on keeping the pride they started off with.  They have not expanded and their offspring seem to be around 3-4 members, last count I recall.

It just goes to show that in the wild, male lions sired by successful coalitions won't necessarily be as successful as their fathers (for example, sons of Shishangaan, Thanda Impi (Tumbelas) and Majingilane males). This, in my opinion, makes the success achieved by the sons of Matimba, Matshapiri, Avoca/Giraffe, Old Gomondwane and Mantimahle males that much more impressive.

I have juste discovered this video, about the Casper's pride, dated from 10 hours... I can be wrong but Casanova (protruding bones of the pelvis) and Mfowethu (limping on a foreleg) don't seem to be in good shape. Casper and especially Footlose much better.

@Spalea I understand your concern but I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. The biggest male has always been in the best condition but both Casper and dark maned male have suffered with limps for a while, sometimes they’re better other times worse but if they’ve been resting it can look more pronounced when they try to get up. Other male also looks fine overall, to say they are all 10 years old now they’re actually doing quite well.
