Casper On S126

According to this picture, it seems like the beginning of the end for these four shish brothers as casper was the last remaining "healthy" one. Now he's looking like this? Time is unfortunately ticking for him and his bros.

On a side note: I think with the way the four bboys kambulas are right now, it seems to me they're walking down the exact same road as these shish brothers. They will conquer a pride late and then they all wither away in two short years. Hopefully i am wrong but It's a shame for the bboys kambulas. I had greater expectations from them two years ago.
I found the Same picture on Gmitchley's Facebook page
The picture is from january 2020

Casper was seen back in the area he was born at. The Shish Pride was said to have been in this same area the day before as well. In the comment section a photographer mentions that his brother Mfowethu was seen on March 25th at Sonop waterhole, but wasn't in good condition. According to said photographer, Casanova was last seen on January 29 and Footloose on December 25 (haven't been able to independently confirm so take it with a grain of salt). Will be interesting to see what lies ahead for Casper in the coming future.

Casper the white lion is in good condition. However reports suggest that Casanova and Mfowethu may no longer be with us. Casper was seen all alone yet again. It is likely that he abandoned his territory due to the presence of stronger males around the area. As none of his brothers were seen with him anytime recently. Footloose's situation remains uncertain and more evidence has to be shared before we can confirm his current status. As Casper is now all alone this probably means that his nomadic journey might have started. Let us hope that he remains healthy as he enters a new stage of his life and as a magnificent era comes to an end. Disappointed

Dated from the 29th March 2025. Casper, being 11 years old, is the only one survivor in a relatively good shape. Casanova and footlose are dead and Mfowethu, recently spotted on the 25th March is very weakened. The Casper's mother is also dead. I don't know why the explanations below the video are in French, but the video itself is in English.

I think the news is a bit more poignant than that and perhaps the other way around. This was on the Latest Sightings Group today:

10:10am
Coalition of Lion
"Casper and his brother in the middle of the road. Casper's brother looking like he is on his end"
H6, 6km E of H1-3
Near Satara
5/5
Tinged by Nelius

No pic, unfortunately, but by the timeline of recent sightings it's highly likely to be Mfowethu and the timeline shows he's going out slowly.
Poignant because his brother is by his side seemingly at the last so he's not alone. Sad, but all kings face the fate of dying by the sword they lived with or being cast out to wither away or tormented by hyenas.

It's been an ongoing discussion over what these animals may feel and we will never really know or understand but from a human perspective, especially having seen these these magnificent males in person, it's sobering and melancholy to see. It's a hard emotion to explain; sadness tinged with regret while also a certain amount of comfort in that at what looks like the end for one, it's not being faced entirely alone.

How did other 2 died before Mfowethu still boggless me, as he was by far in worst condition out of 4 of them, going back even 1 year ago.

Bigger one broke his paw during a hunting incident if I remember correctly, otherwise he'd still be alive.

Goes to show that as powerful as these animals are, they're living out their lives in a very harsh environment filled with animals that are every bit as powerful in their own right. We often see the Kruger, and the Sabi Sands in particular, and become somewhat climatised to it by seeing people enjoying themselves on holiday, smiling, laughing, having sundowners or bush braais on their Instagram yet as an environment it is exceptionally harsh. Summers, for example, are brutally hot and water is by no means a guarantee or in even measure everywhere and by itself is a major attributor to animal mortality if they are weakened by injury or disease which is something not  commonly discusssed. Temperatures even in winter can exceed 30 degrees Celsius regularly.

The saying is the strongest survive and that is very much true but luck and sheer resilience plays it's part as well.
