We got a report about them sending rangers out looking for Olobor even after numerous sources confirmed he was speared to death all because they didn’t want to be honest and admit the problems they’re having with HWC.
In terms of them doing it for the lion population, it seems pretty stable to me, especially in the area where this took place. I mean if u look around the surrounding area, u have 7 Topi subadult males, 5 Rongai subadult males, 3 (now 2 Paradise boys - heard there could be 5 altogether but 3 seemed to have split off) 6 Fig Tree subadult males and u still have so many more nomads too. One death isn’t going to change the fact that so many more of these males are going to die, especially with this many big upcoming coalitions in close proximity, albeit a lot of them aren’t ready to challenge yet, but they eventually will.

Exactly what I am saying. IF poaching is causing the numbers to be lower than they should be, then the simple solution is to enforce the laws that already exist. Though, as you mentioned, I am not sure we are at that point yet. However, in the Mara, they seem to have zero interest in that, instead choosing to allow the humans to encroach upon the lions territory, and then allowing them to kill them with impunity. It is disgusting, and is exactly why any time anyone asks me where they should go, if planning a safari, I always tell them to stay away from the Mara, at all costs. The only thing that will get them to change their corrupted stance, is for the tourism to cease, people to stop visiting the area. I guarantee you they will then change their current positions.

I’ve had quite a few conversations with ppl recently about wanting to go on a safari and the first place they always suggest is Masai Mara, I’ve started to get tired of explaining why that’s a place I’d never wish to go given the current environment over there, through no fault of their own ofc, they’ve just never read up on it. Thankfully majority of these ppl have never went and aren’t planning on visiting Masai Mara anytime soon, so they don’t know the indecency that they’d be funding.

If I’m being completely honest, I wish I had never starting getting invested in this thread, that way I wouldn’t have to see all the great lions being slaughtered, that seems the best word for me right now, Human Wildlife Conflict doesn’t do it justice. Damn the Black Rock Boys. Just playing. Hopefully we start to see some very serious changes over there but I seriously doubt it..

I was actually thinking about a way to solve the current issue at hand over there, it will never be applied but I think it could seriously work. So u see how we have all these private game reserves opening up like Sandringham recently being acquired by Sabi Sabi, higher ups could force Masai Mara hand and force them to better conditions or else they’d start moving a lot of their lions / prides to these locations.

It wouldn’t work for quite a few reasons, first of all it’d be quite expensive to transport these lions to other locations and aside from that, it seems the higher ups aren’t exactly in a rush to stop these monstrosities from happening. Then the new reserves would also have to be vetted to make sure the lions are 100% better off over there, for example, Sandringham has problems with poaching from what I’ve heard.

This is obviously quite an extreme idea all because they can’t control herders from killing their lions, but one I genuinely believe could work.

I, too, have stopped using the term HWC, as you mentioned it is not fitting the current situation in Masai Mara, and does not give justice to what is actually taking place. It is either straight out poaching, or as you mentioned "slaughter", but this is not HWC.
This is why i mostly stopped following the situations and lions of the Masai Mara in the last few months. I'm completely fed up with these circumstances and situations......they usually interfere - if they caught and it's spotted - into the lions' wars/competitions and with this, their dynamics too, although which is absolutely and always the order of nature. While they still couldn't stop and liquidate the problems with HWC's, they're unable to evict or force the farmerians with their f*cking grazing animals to leave the national park.

Recording this and posting it as a save only reinforces this idea

Chasing a male lion with a permant limp with  vehicles at full speed, just because he and his brother acted like lions, doesnt give the reserve the best look

for those who follow more frequently perhaps not, but for visitors or random followers the view is different, this can be seen in the comments of the post with people considering it a great achievement, in addition to the caption given.

Olonkera with one of the male subs, Oloimina joined them too in the last slide, fortunately the rangers must have chased them towards Rongai Pride.

To make things even better for Orkirikoi.. yet another coalition has shown up at Survey area. These are the 3 Molibany boys, they shown up at Black Rock Pride Territory 2 months ago or so and were said to be quite skittish but look very comfortable in these videos. Although, I don’t think they realise the danger they’re walking into. I think it was also confirmed yesterday the Inselberg makes crossed the river and chased one of the Paradise boys so this is a hot point in the Mara right now.

As both of the above videos are from the same photographer, I’m guessing Rongai subadults and Oloimina were just on the boundary of their territory, maybe even slightly into Orkirikoi territory themselves.

And finally the most helpless lion in the Mara this very second, he has no chance against any of these coalitions and it’d be a miracle if they all somehow avoid his cubs.

Good news, seems it was nothing more than a reminder of strength between two territorial neighbours.

I was just thinking about something after seeing a comment of Orkirikoi probably not being able to keep his territory after this, with all the coalitions around his territory right now, maybe they can trick the others into staying away. For example, if Inselberg males hear 3 BRBs roaring in Survey area, they might consider this their territory and think twice about trespassing, same way Kaskaz males presence could make them think twice, especially as they aren’t familiar with the local coalitions.

I don’t think they’ll stick around anyways, but if u get lucky with a few lionesses, u never know. Anyways long term, Orkirikoi will definitely lose his territory unless he partners with new males, but for right now, I could see him just about being able to hold on.

And as I commented on that posting, this is madness.  Minor injuries from 3 adult Male Lions?  Either the Black Rockers are in serious trouble if they are invaded, or this was something more than just an attack.  We screwed with the natural course of things, so we'll never know.

Humans are the dumbest animals living on this planet.

We can’t treat this incident the same as how they’d react to an invasion in their own territory, I can guarantee u they’d have seriously injured him, maybe even fatally. They most likely let him go cos they wasn’t focused on taking over his small pride, that’s if they even know they exist. This was nothing more than all 3 BRBs reastablishing their dominance. They will meet again, whether it’s Orkirikoi and all 3 BRBs or individually, and we’ll see how that goes.

I would not say that. Look at those yesterday's sightings of all 4 Inselberg males together and their peircing-challenging eyes on their agressive-formed faces while continously scanned and examined the surrounding areas with prying eyes. They were definitely on mission 'thirstened for new challenges' literally. It could be the case, because they're ruling the southern sections of the Triangle for a long time now, and probably they're on the search for new territories. Furthermore, they should be around 10 years now - most probably the oldest ruling coalition in the Mara, along with the Bilashakas - so they have so much experience, and i think they know very well, the numbers advantage is on their side by far in most cases and almost nothing can stop them. (Not so many coalitions can do that they can remain together for such long time at high number like this.)

(Yesterday, 04:13 PM)KM600 Wrote: same way Kaskaz males presence could make them think twice, especially as they aren’t familiar with the local coalitions
Partly correct, but on the other side, Serengeti/Kaskaz males may already know the area very well, as they have been ruling the Lookout and Survey area for at least 2-3 years now. They attempted to challenge and attack Orkirikoi, Oloborani (who died by their hands most probably) and Survey pride so many times since last year, and tried to eliminate them (along with the pride's cubs for sure). It is also possible that they have already had some confrontations and 'evasions' with the Black Rock Boys, so they may already know about each other's presence too.

(Yesterday, 04:13 PM)KM600 Wrote: Anyways long term, Orkirikoi will definitely lose his territory
Moreover - if i were him - i would leave the area immediately, if he would be able to move on in his current status. At this place, with so many large powerful coalitions in their prime around him, it would only be a matter of time before he was killed.

(Yesterday, 06:21 PM)KM600 Wrote: They most likely let him go cos they wasn’t focused on taking over his small pride
Although, this exactly could be the subject, because most of the Rongai's gave birth recently, so the 3 BRB's could also be on a mission searching for new mating opportunities. Don't forget, this was around Survey Hill area, not BRB's territory.

Fortunately for Orkirikoi, his encounter with the Molibany boys went a lot better. Don't believe the actual hunt was seen so who joined whom is unknown.
