There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
Daniel Rosengren:" This is a B. rex! That's right, the scientific name of this bird is Balaeniceps rex and it is the T. rex of the avian world. The common name is Shoebill and it is a giant among birds. Standing up to 140 cm tall it is an impressive sight. The bill is ginormous, about as large as a human shoe and has the largest circumference among bird bills in the world.
The shoebill hunts by standing still as a statue and lungeing itself over a fish that comes to the surface. It has even been observed taking ducks. There is even a report of one taking a baby antelope (Lechwe). "
