Amber Eyes and Ridgenose left to mate with the PC males. But yes, the rest of it is sad. Common though.

One of the Pregnant Nkuhuma Lionesses has been killed.

Details are still sketchy.    But remains of a her were seen being consumed by hyenas.

Suspicion is she might have been found giving birth.

I’m unclear on which female.

So I assume its 1 of 2 young females? Chela already give birth and 3 Birmingham females where not pregnant, right?

Strange, I dont think hyenas coukd kill her just like that, which other lions are in the area?

It's also been said that they believe all of Chela's cubs are dead.  If she is in the middle of birthing and was attacked by a pack, I could see it I guess.  I read a report recently that talked about Hyena numbers in the greater Kruger area and they are poised to take over dominance.  How that works in reality I guess is another story that I don't know the complexities of.

Two females were suspected to be pregnant

One of the Birmingham known as Tattered ears. And one of the 2019 AE daughters.

Protecting their other offspring by leaving and going to mate with the new males so they don’t kill their offspring they do it all the time

But that would be false oestrus, no? In which case they don't conceive, hence the use of 'false' in the name. They also would then have gone back to the pride afterwards. Instead, they became pregant, and left the pride. So it wasn't to protect their offspring.

They are protecting their offspring Idk what else to say either they’ll fight and die like the othawa femaless or form a breakaway pride to lure the new males away from their offspring that are old enough to take care of themselves mostly simple Birmingham nkuhuma had young cubs amber and ridge their subadults where older I’m pretty sure if chelas son was older she would’ve left too and purple eye was on the decline at this time I believe. But they aren’t protecting their offspring ok I gotchu.

I haven’t heard of any recent interactions between them. Not since before their mother was killed.

I doubt the PCM would be hostile.

They have no reason to attack their daughter and their son has just turn 2yo. With Kruger lions the fathers usually start pressuring their sons only when the sons are 3-3,5yo.

Besides, the PCM's behaviour towards cubs is one of the most lovely ever seen, they play with cubs, hug them, groom them and chase the mothers away from a kill but leave the cubs eating. All instances caught on camera.

Meanwhile the average male interact with cubs by ignoring them.

Problem is that last time they were seen with them these 2 where pretty much cubs and mother was still alive (it would be nice to know when was last recorded sighting of them together, it must have been a year or so).

Now they are almost fully grown.

With hostile i dont mean that they would try to kill them, but i dont think they would hang together or be too friendly anymore, especially with that young male being so big.

Theres a reason we dont see them hang together for ~ 1 year or so, because they dont, and after connection is lost, lions can be pretty hostile, even towards their own blood.

We dont know if PCMs where involved into Mhangeni killing their mother, they might have, theres plenty examples like that (Majingilanes with Othawas vs Ximhungwe, Junior Matimba with Mbiris vs Koppies etc.) where pride males turn with new, stronger pride against weaker former pride.

Last time they were seen together was probably a few months ago. There was a ranger saying the PCM occasionally meet with the Nkuhuma Breakaways.

It's unlikely PCM helped to kill their mother because when Singita rangers arrived to the scene, they just found the Mangheni pride eating Ridge Nose ( this according to their official report ), if PCM were also there they would have been mentioned.

The Ridgenoses have little value for the PCM at the moment. So for them there is no point in visiting the youngsters.

But as their hunting skills improve and they start bringing down bigger prey regularly, the males will likely return for easy meals.
