There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Snip Tail seems recovered from his beating and is back with his bold behavior. He and his younger brother, Pale Nkuhlu #6, were both with a lioness in Lion Sands, the two Gijimas not far.
The female is into the thickets and its not possible to identify her, but likely Sand River since 3/5 of them still have no cubs.

#3 & #6, the thinner brothers

Yes. One lioness gave birth during late January and other was heavily pregnant, likely already gave birth too. How many? that wasn't shared just yet.

The coalition in general doesn't necessarily have names, just like most of Sabi Sands / Kruger, its not official. The closest was a photographer calling Nkuhlu #2 as 'Snip Tail' in one of his Instagram stories.

I personally use those nicknames mostly to sometimes point out more specific characteristics on each male apart from the numbers. Which is no different from most individual male lions in KNP, being nicknamed by their mane color or style, eyes, tail, size, etc.

Well about #3, he had a dreadlock on his mane during early 2024, so i called him 'Dreadlocks' a few times, which is no good since it could bring confusions with the late Dreadlock DeLaporte, their unrelated partner (gone), who also had a dread on his mane for a short period of time but that was more than enough to be called 'Dreadlock' for the rest of his life (same with Mapogo Dreadlocks).

Nkuhlu #4 had nothing much characteristic except for the fact he wasn't any of the others and is dead, also imo he was surely the most beautiful, but that was it. Being dead at a young age makes it difficult to develop a more characteristic feature

@Ngonya

Oh thank you! Didn't know that Dreadlocks and #4 are gone, is it clear what happened to them? Or they just dissapeared?

I also like to give them names, for better tracking and more accurate recall.

Your welcome.

(Dreadlocks Nkuhlu #3 is alive, only has some health complications, with his hindquarters pretty skinny and often losing condition)

On the other hand, Dreadlocks DeLaporte (older, unrelated partner) vanished around mid 2024, what happened for sure remains unknown but its likely he succumbed to loss of condition caused by deterioration from 'old age' and the beating by the Southern Avoca, probably TB as well i believe.
Nkuhlu #4 very similar, he vanished in late 2024, what happened also remains unknown but very likely succumbed to loss of condition, probably TB.

Exactly I meant dreadlocks DeLaporte. Thanks again.

In conclusion, living members of Nkuhlu coalition are:
#1 Smudge
#2 Snip tail
#3 Dreadlocks Nkuhlu
#5 Crooked Tail
#6 Pale Nkuhlu
