  • The six NKUHLU MALES were encountered twice as they explored further north onto the property. They may have begun to displace the Southern Avoca evils in Charleston, potentially killing one of them. On the 5th, they were north of Charleston Rock. On the 15th and 16th, they were reportedly seen some ways south of the Sand River, south of the Charleston Toulon Boundary. On the 19th, four of they were west of Flat Rocks.

Those boys aren't letting any roots grow, they are really active, moving all over. There's been no word on the last S Avoca, I hope he stays clear of these boys.

I worded that poorly, he was seen on the 25th of September, near the Sand River, which is the last time I am aware of. I meant to say there is no word on if he has been seen close to where these boys are moving about, I'm wishing he would move further away from them.

I would assume each other, over mating rights.

Who did they fight
probably themselves or females trying to defend their cubs.

"After he killed the babies?"

That's weird.  The Sand River Pride has no more "babies" or cubs.  Could it be another pride?  The 2 youngest cubs from the SRP are gone, the last one killed on video and carried away by Snip Tail while the mother was watching from afar.  What about the Plains Camp Pride?  Any young cubs one knows of?  The female does not look familiar to me from the photos because neither the SRP, nor the PCP are followed or videoed regularly enough by rangers/guides for me to ID them.

I think they where reffering to that past incident with SR pride.

Is it really referring to the past that long ago when the date shows Oct. 15th? The wording also made it seem recent.  That's a big delay if not recent.

Either way, there are very slim pickings for the Nkhulus in the SRP.  There are only 3 adult females, and 2 others younger than 4.  The older one, closer to 4, might be ready now or very soon, but the one just over 3 is barely ready to, and probably not anytime very soon with an aggressive, large coalition.  Wish there was a photo of all the adult lionesses in this pride to ID them better.

TBT

Posted on june 29, 5/6 young Nkhulu brothers patrolling on the H1-2 near Skukuza Rest Camp.
incredible to see how they developed during these months

"For about ten minutes I followed him (young Nkhulu) on his morning rounds, sometimes side by side with him. Then, in the distance, I saw another car stopped with 2 other lions beside it. I got closer and tried to film the 3 lions, who had now joined up, from both the front and the back. Then two more arrived, making a total of 5 lions."

other angle/perspective of the video:
