Freddy was never a problem for Solo and Cloe, theres a report that Solo alone chased him, they would eventualy takeover SP from Freddy, but the problem was the 3 Sand River males who where coming from the south, already had a portion of SP with them, and they ultimately win the battle for Southern Pride between those 3 coalitions in early 2014.
Altrough all that situation with Southern Pride in late 2013/early 2014 was a mess, if im not mistaken Southern Pride was split, some females where with Freddy, some with Sand River males at the same time and Solo/Cleo was also in the picture..
In the end Cleo was killed in January 2014 i believe, and Freddy completely lost control of SP few month later to Sand River males.
KNP male with Solo and Cloe shared dominance in the south for like a year or so (do not remember exactly). Even through Solo proved to be a bit more dominant than Freddy, Cleo was far less dominant. Any time they encountered each others Freddy and Solo had kind of stealmate while Cleo was intimidated by KNP male and always either run away from him or keept low head. Solo and Cleo did not manage to oust Freddy even through they were in situation 2vs1. When Sand River males came they sorted each of them out. For me Solo and Cleo can be argued to be weakest lion duo in Sabi Sands in the past 15 years and the example that body size is just one of the few factors in lion warfare.
I don't think they were a weak duo. Maybe, and most appropriate a unlucky duo
