MALAMALA TODAY: October 22nd & 23rd. 9 lion sightings: The Matshapiri male has, over the last 2 days, been enjoying the company of 4 Kambula lionesses but 2 of the Gowrie males caught wind of them this morning. The 2 males were in hot pursuit near Campbell Koppies when one of the lionesses veered away and drew their attention. As they caught up to her the testosterone-filled Gowrie males turned on each other. By the time they’d settled their differences the lioness had disappeared. The Matshapiri male got away unscathed. One of the aforementioned Gowrie males had been with 2 of the Kambula lionesses yesterday. The 3 Manyelethi males are with a Kambula lioness close to Rattray’s Camp. The young males from the Marthly pride finished off their giraffe kill and moved into the Sand River. The Eyrefield pride were also viewed in Charleston. Yesterday, the 13 members of the Styx pride were with a 3rd Gowrie male in the north

The Kambula lionesses are mating with all the resident Males nearby but they still don't have cubs right? They should stick to the Birmingham Males - Majingis and the lonesome Matshipiri Male won't be able to protect the cubs for the next 2 years.

They had cubs recently but all seems to have lost.
At Least 3 of them had with Matshapiris. (Earlier as well atleast 2 of them had cubs with Matimbas, but lost to floods/Matshapiris)
The new set of cubs were also lost to Avocas likely. (See one of my yesteday's post having a tiny cub with Kambula Lioness)
Again a lion seems to be searching for den site last week, donno who is the father as they have mated with all males in recent past

I am sorry for them, such a powerful young force don't have a proper coilation of males as protectors.

Is it possible that the Tsalala/Marthly males will be able to overtake the Avocas, at some point, since they out number them? Maybe in a year or two when they get older.

Yes, I believe so. They had few run-ins already
At least in couple of occasions Tsalalas chased Avocas

Even since they got beating from bigger males (Some other coilation in Southern Sabi sands), Tsalalas are low on confidence and being chased by Avocas
Its matter of time before the tables turn

Well, there was also the time where the Avoca beat on one of the Tsalala males and made the other 2 runs away in the other direction. Then there is also the time where the Avoca stole their kill.

Being 3 doesn't automatically mean you have an advantage, there have been many incidents in the wild where 2 lions have beaten 3 lions.

Plus, the Avocas are not fully in their prime as well. I think they are going to be 6 soon. So, they are also coming into their full prime.

Both Avocas & Tsalalas are little more than 4 year old. Avocas are slightly older by few months.
