There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Anyone know how these were sustained?
I guess it's possible that he had an altercation with two new males from Kruger AFTER he was seen roaring to send his own message back on 6th January.

But he didn't have any visible scars at the time of his sending his own message back??

Yes, the Kruger Males are certainly good candidates.   They’ve been heard and seen close by.

Who is the father of the mbira cub??
Zig zag mbiri male is the father of this cub. He mate with some of the mbiri girls in mid 2021. These cubs were born in October. Initially they were 3, now only one is surviving.
Mbiri pride has two more cubs, who will be turned to 1 yr by February. They were sired by our favorite junior nkuhuma male.

That’s going to be a disputed situation.  But if I were to give my best guess, he was sired by ZZ Scar Mbiri.   From the April breeding.  But again it’s my guess.  He could very well be from Tintswalo in mating we never saw.

I'm doubtful Zigzag is the sire.....if the mating was as early as April of last year.  That means the cubs would have had to have been born no later than August.  This does not look like a 5 month old cub.  I would say that the sire is probably a mating by one of the Tinswalo Males that the guides claim they were witnessing later.

This litter of cubs has been well documented.   Their first sighting was September as three tiny cubs.   At the time they looked to be about 3-6 weeks.   We have since seen how they’ve lost two along the way until this remaining cub.   The size could be misleading because it’s obviously under developed due to a seemingly nutrition challenge of some kind which likely contributed to the death of the other two.  So the timeline does indeed match the mating w ZZ.  But I’m not saying it’s definitively so.

Yes, I see where severe undernourishment could contribute to the lack of normal development of the cub.   In the case, there is a claim for Zigzag.  I'm wondering if the Tintswalos also think the cub is theirs, hence why they tolerate it.  The lioness could have mated with her brothers as well as her uncle/cousin in order to 'fool' them.  What a shame about the cub.  It's only a matter of time before it perishes, most likely.  What gender is it?
