There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

How do West African Lions compare in size to South African Lions and East African Lions?

West African lions are smaller in comparison with the other African lion populations. In fact, we need to remember that these lions belong to the Asian subspecies, together with the Barbary lion. It is interesting also that the size is quite close between the Indian and the West African lions which suggest that Barbary lions could be of the same size or maybe slightly larger, based in the skulls available.

Check this comparative image:

Please take in count that the measurements of the Indian lion are between pegs while those of the Barbary and the West African lions are over the curves. The skulls of the Barbary lion are all from captive specimens.

Both places, taken as a single population.

The shoulder heights are odd!
