In regards to the Captive Tigers comment, you are absolutely correct. Captive tigers are poor representations of their wild counterparts, they are so hybridized and inbred, its taken a toll on them. Especially 99% of what you see, are actually "N. American Tigers" that are bred through unauthorized breeders for strictly a profit and not the well being or conservation of any big cats.

it it is very difficult to rank. If you are not an expert, you see a tiger and for you It' s a very big tiger. Ok. But if you know the tigers , you can say if it is really a big tiger. Many times, 2 or 3 years ago, I have seen a big tiger,... Bamera. When male tiger are eating, they are full. They eat 15 kgs. But the proportions of legs and face are normal, and it is not a very big tiger. For Bamera, I have follow this tiger on many years. I have picture with him and his brothers 2 years old ( 4 Cubs, birth nov 2004) It was really more bigger than brothers. In December, I have seen T24, full ...and very big. In your Kaziranga pictures, I can say , that really an huge tiger, not a full tiger by food, we can see the proportions, long and massive, not very nice. It is necessary to see really the size, because the anormal proportions can false the evaluation. But I have never see same huge tiger...for the moment. I go in Ranthambore in March, April, May. Maybe I see Star male and I can answer at this for your question. [img]images/smilies/dodgy.gif[/img] But the times are changing. I think now, the reign of Sultan is coming. I hope also to see Fateh, etc... Oh, I forget. I have see a big tiger in November. In Kitauli zone, in Bandhavgarh, a very big tiger., size of Bamera 7 years old. I have read from all over that bamera is a huge tiger but I have also read that he is not as large as others. That must mean Waghdoh is a seriously massive boy since so many compare him to bamera and all say he is much larger.
The problem is: at what age people see the tiger. And also, for beginner, full of food or not.
You cannot compare tiger with different ages. When tigers take years, they loose musculars, mass and weight. Male tigers are bigger between 6 and 9 years. I have see an huge tiger in Bandipur, and also 2 bigs brothers, but I have not a great experience in this park. Maybe I coming another time in November, this year. Based on what i read, I take it that you saw Mukunda malee in Khitauli zone around 2013 and Raja from Bandipur along with two of his sub adult sons that probably have carved out their own territories by now. that's truly amazing, I hope you have a good time around here. Welcome Dithoo, we all really appreciate that you´re sharing all your experience with us. Great to have someone on this forum with a lot of experience in tiger sighting.
Here is a nice video on Katezari aka Tyson male, Gabbar aka Leopardface male, Maya (P2) tigress and P1 tigress with her cub.
In this video we can clearly see Katezari male is bigger and longer than Gabbar. In the end the cute little cub of P1 carries some food in its mouth. I wouldn't say that, simply because when Katezari fought Saturn, Katezari was more robust but Saturn seemed taller and they seemed to be similar in length. When Gabbar fought Saturn, gabbar seemed like the bigger tiger in every dimension. Not sure if Gabbar fought Katezari or not? I forget, but both are heavyweights, even saturn who although is a skinnier tiger still has some serious dimension. And I believe Gabbar fought saturn when he was younger than when Katezari did and Gabbar has definitely put on some mass. But @Roflcopters knows the ages of both better than I. You do as well, I am sure.
Everyone I've spoken to said Katezari is far bigger than every other tiger except Wagdoh and even in this video the guy at
5:56 he says "Gabbar se bada hai" meaning "this one is bigger than Gabbar" 6:17 he says "yeh male bohat bada hai" meaning "this male is Enormous" |
 but not very far from the real figure (250kg - I'd like to believe that) which in my opinion is easily achieved by male tigers all around India in their prime age and some seem to surpass this figure.<br />

It would be increasingly difficult to rate tigers based on sheer size because a lot of them rival each other but without a shadow of doubt, Assam, the Terai belt and the Nepal males are pretty much the biggest out there. Steve Winter, a famous photogapher who's been photographing tigers in the wild also said the males from Kaziranga were absolutely enormous and the biggest he's seen and filmed in the wild.<br />
