So it is assumed, that maybe it has been weighed also by people of Guinness, but that is just assumption. I was told, that history of Simba is actually very sketchy.

Staff from zoo of Colchester, where Simba and Nyoka visited 1970 said, that Simba was clearly obese. I got also a link to rare, but quite good quality video footage, where it can be clearly seen. That belly swinging there sideways looks like to have some fat inside. Simba can be seen from 2:18 forward.

He's definitely obese but a huge cat none the less. In the wild he'd still be a 270kg+ cat with his dimensions. IMO

Yes it is a big one. Even if 50 kg off it might look pretty fit. I haven´t looked so closely that how good origin of it is known, so I put here a short quote from message, which I got:

"Nick travelled around zoos and circus’s displaying some of his animals.  In 1970, Nick bought some of his animals to Colchester zoo to display, his famous lion Simba was one of them.  At that time Nick claimed Simba was the largest captive lion in the world, which he had caught on the Serengeti Plain in 1959."

It was nice to get reply from zoo and learn what they knew and could tell. As I said, for me around 300 kg lion in wild isn´t something what I would call impossible at all. But if clearly heavier, then the more claimed weight, the more doubts start to be in mind.

I have to add though, that when I say that I don´t think that it would impossible, then again of course so big one (about 300 kg) is in "exceptional" class, imo. It can´t be forgotten that around 200 kg is what usually is seen. Just like it is with tigers or any species, time to time there are huge specimens while average is less.

900 pound lion Lord Ivory

You are right, I don´t take seriously any claims about healthy and fit lions weighing 800-1000 pounds, those are all utter nonsense. If you want to show fat and unhealthy lions, which are grossly overfed, that is another thing.

My advice is, that consider carefully what you post here, because if you focus to nonsense, then moderation will happen. Idea here is to be able to discuss freely, disagreements are ok when both sides are able to give good arguments and act civilized. But if someone starts to post well-known nonsense, then situation is different.

I don´t know you too well, but sometimes you walk on quite thin ice, imo. So please look at things and try to give good reasoning if you post something, which can be considered extraordinary. A fit lion weighing 270 kg can be considered already exceptional, 300 kg would be world record lion in wildlife, so far heaviest commonly accepted weight has been 272 kg.

So if you post something, it is good to remember that. I don´t start now any debate, if you post too much old well known and unconfirmed or fake cases, it will be stopped at some point. Idea here is to find and share good information, not circle around nonsense again and again and again in neverending cycles.

@lionjaguar :

About #99: good find ! I remember this documentary I saw 20 years ago. It occured in the Masai Mara if I am not wrong, because we could also see a Masai tribe defending their cattle against hyenas during the night.

This black-maned lion was indeed very powerful because he defended victoriously the killed prey against 4 nomadic lions but it was added that his days at the head of this pride were counted. What can a lone lion, even beautiful and powerful, against 4 nomadic lions ? The time is against him.

There was full video in youtube uploaded in 11 years ago, but it's gone now. What was the name of this film? And what was this black-maned lion name?

Yea the weight was alleged. We have the shoulder heights of Simba and he is not that big after all:

Any cat exceeding 110 cm in standing height is a giant. Simba was a giant.

Unlucky I don't know neither the name of this movie, nor the black-maned lion's name. I only remind it was diffused in a documentary channel called "Animaux" ("Animals" in english) during the years 1998-2005.

Sorry for having you answered only now. I was reading the last replies of this topic at this moment.
