It will be intresting to see further development of dynamic around Kambula pride. Ndzenga males being down to just 3 males, one of those also not being healty and being only small to avarage size males they do not look like unmovable force and perhaps Gijimas , Black Dams or Talamatis will will try to take over Ndzenga's females for themselfs.

Baseless speculation.

Gjimas where seen with female which Ndhzengas dont control.

Also, their size means pretty much nothing, mr T and KT where not big lons, and are considered greatest duo ever.

You are also completley underestimating Gore, like he even doesnt exist.

Not sure why you mentioned BDM's and Talamatis as they dont have any relations, interactions or showed signs of interest towards Kambulas or Ndhzengas (except that Amahle maybe chased Mohawked BDM month or so ago , if that male was indeed BDM). But no reason for them to target 3 males, with so many solo and duos around.

Only coalition which Ndhzengas might worry in near future are 4 Kambula young males, but its not likely they will target their natal pride.

In the end ,im not sure why you specifically mentioned Ndhzengas as "exploitable" without any reason, as "random" speculations like this can be said for every coalition, like for example : " will be interesting to follow dynamics around Mhangeni pride, as PC males are only 2, because of that they might get exploited by 4 young Kambula males, or even Talamati or BD's".

When the Gijimas appeared they won by exploiting mistakes the Nwas made and even that came at the cost of member.  The Nwas and Gijima wont make those mistakes again.

Gijimas didnt won anything, except they injured WN , and they lost a member to uncertain circumstances.

Territory where they settle in Lion Sands and SP was already vacant by Ndhzengas before that.

Not quite. It was just mostly left to Gore to defend the prides there. With other members occasionally visiting as well.
If it was truly vacant, there wouldn't have been a fight.

@Tr1x24

Although I agree size doesn't mean much ( it might mean a lot if the difference is like ridiculous ), but I've to point out the two Mapogo are underestimated in size. Honestly I think they could be described as big.

Despite calling them small/average, Rob says there was no big difference between Mapogos and there's plenty of footage showing Mr.T being as tall as Dreadlocks and Makhulu, just not as bulky. And he also claims Dreadlocks was the largest and "none weighed over 230kg", he says it's impossible to tell how much stomach content they had but says every time they were darted they were *still* eating the bait.

If they were still eating they had no full stomach. A 230kg lion with partial stomach content has a pretty considerable size. Even a lion this heavy with a full stomach would be 200kg or higher empty, which is already considerably above average, idk what Rob thinks the average for a lion is but If I'm not mistaken Kruger males average 187kg.

Mr.T and KT would probably dwarf the smaller Ndhzenga. They were very likely bigger than all Ndhzengas, alive or dead.

And even them had trouble with prime/dominant males, another amazing duo that I've just read about recently, the Mbiris, being of Skybed blood were/are likely bigger than Mapogos and just as fierce, but they also lost a 2v2 clash/fight in their prime and got chased away by 2/3 males, same coalition they chased a year before while outnumbered seemingly "easily".

These clashes are very unpredictable.

I remember a Londolozi ranger talking about this specifically, I might be able to find the article later but he argued that despite their numbers, the coalition wasn't as strong as it may look because of the injuries and because one of the healthy ones was smaller than the females and therefore he didn't thought he would fair well in a territorial fight.

Still 3 dominant prime males are always better than 2. If it was 2v2 I'd give the edge to Gijimas, but 3v2, with the injure or not, being small or not, the strength in numbers is too much.

Gijimas vs n’waswitshakas as a friend told me they might not want to fight them after hearing three males roar they might not wanna risk it but these boys seem confident and I’ve never seen gore in a fight so we will see if he fights or not pretty sure he would if he had too but size shouldn’t matter I’m pretty sure amahle and Erongji or uboso or gore not sure who was in the fight but  they gave blondie a beating and that was the downfall of him RIP blondie and blondie wasn’t a small lion

Here the article I was talking about:

https://blog.londolozi.com/2022/12/14/wh...londolozi/

Today, everything appears to have settled and is relatively stable, with emphasis on the word “relatively”.

The condition of each of the Ndzhenga Males is somewhat of a worry. Of the four males, I personally only classify one as a formidable lion, the largest of the four. The second appears impressive when he is alone, however, he is dwarfed by his brother (already mentioned) and the Ntsevu females are somewhat bigger than him too. Dynamite comes in small packages, so I don’t want to count him out just yet, I am merely just stating the obvious that the females are bigger than him.

The other two males are sporting life-threatening injuries that should they be left alone with no support, it would be unlikely that they would hold their own against other male lions. The one has his stomach protruding from his side, and the other has a severe injury to his back right leg, quite likely a dislocation of the knee.

I believe this is the healthy small Ndhzenga he is talking about:

Ranger doesn't want to count him out yet but doesn't seem to hold much trust in him due to his size ( or even that much trust in the other Ndhzengas besides the one he calls formidable ). But as he says "dynamite comes in small package" so who knows how would he fair in a fight. What I know though, is that regardless of how much size influence in this situations, it's at least worth mentioning how small this male is or even how small the Ndhzengas are as a whole, it's so worth mentioning that the ranger himself worries about it.

3 roars is the reason other lions are kept at bay, no doubt, but it wouldn't be the first or last time a smaller coalition attacked the territory of a bigger one, especially with one of the members weakened. As long as Ndhzengas fight as 3 they will have the edge, but in these types of clash anything can happen, it won't be necessarily 2v3.

As I said I'm also of the believe size doesn't matter much but an argument can be made that it is relevant, and I've definitely seen cases where size mattered a lot. Like when the 2 S.Matimbas attacked the 2 Fourways males, they easily overpowered them and dispatached the male who couldn't escape in like a single minute. The poor Fourways male could react as much as a hyena would against Ginger:

He was much smaller:

There was also that fight that was also recorded between 2 Addo Boys and 2 much bigger Kwandwe and Monomoholo. They got hold of one of their rivals, the bother tried to help him but couldn't do much and left:

So it seems to me size is important when there's a huge disparity, not saying is the case with Gijimas and Ndhzengas but it's something to keep in mind.
