Yes, Doug Peacock was a Vietnam vet. This was at a time when grizzlies were portrayed as living monsters. Doug lived out in the wildness following and studying inland grizzlies, getting to know them on an almost personal level; giving them names. Doug pioneered in grizzly behavior, learning about their person space and all the dos and don'ts for future grizzly biologists and naturalists. In later years, he spent time in the Russian taiga. "Grizzly Years" is indeed a must-read book for anyone interested in grizzlies or the American wilderness. Reply
