850 will be the Gir Lions Population by 2020

In the primary calculation, about 600 lions are counted including 60 lions in Amreli district alone.

The number of lions in Amreli district has increased according to census performed last night. According to estimates, about 600 lions have come up from the details given by Gir officials. There are more than 60 villages have been reported in Gir and Greater Gir.

When the lion population was calculated in 2015, the number of lions was increasing and in the next five years, this number is expected to increase even more and in the next year 2020, the population will be estimated to take upto 850 individuals.

However, there is no official report yet ready to say that the number of lions has increased. Earlier, the number of lions decreased due to a virus known as Canine Distemper in Dalkhaniya .

In the primary count based on the day-to-day basis tracking and record of Gujarat Forest Department, it is estimated that more than 60 lions have been registered in Amreli district. The lion's enthusiasts are happy as the total number of lions increased to 600.

It is important that in the counting of lions in 2015, 511 lions were recorded in the whole of Gir. Currently, the lions have spread to Amreli, Greater Gir, Dhari, Gir East, Junagadh, Somnath and Bhavnagar. Of course, some details didn't come out and hiding for security reasons. However, according to the information, if population census carried out in 2020, now even if the preliminary estimate is 600 this year, the total number will be around 850 ' officials say. This is a good sign.
