@Spalea No it ain't universal. It's specific to region and culture. In India, both are called "Vanraj" or King of the wild or Jungle and names are overlapping too are same "Shir" though both can be specified in their particular names too that is "Bhag" for tiger, "Babbar Sher" for Lion.

where as in other east Asian and South east Asian Countries, Tiger has that possession unanimously in culture except some like Singapore and Lanka. Mainly, China. In the standard Mandarin (official language of China) character/word "王" (literal meaning "the king") is displayed on its forehead, but also because it is the symbol of bravery and power.

So yeah, it depends on the region, culture. In India, both are two eyes for us. Like in @Rishi Avatar or profile pic. But sadly, the situation is changing as the lions are proceeding to the edge and slipping away from hands.

Both are kings (lion's mane, tiger's sign) and equal status in Indian culture and devotional or have divine importance related to Gods.

Catch the irony here that the Chinese worship tiger and dragon in their culture but still they are the No.1 threat for tigers around the world. lol. coz the belief which gave them that Tiger is symbol of bravery and power of a king made them to start another disbelief that any body part from that strongest and powerful creation of God can cure their ailments. Lol. India can't give protection for tigers forever, they should kill the head of the snake to save tigers, i.e.., the disbelief among the Chinese by conducting mass awareness campaigns and programmes among them.
