"WE AFRAID TO GET OUT OF OUR HOMES": INVASION OF TIGERS IN PRIMORSKIJ REGION

Amur tigers are entering human habitations in Primorskij region in order to find food

by Dmitrij Okunov, 12 Feb. 2019

A lot of Amur tigers started to appear close to people, in human habitations in RFE. Local authorities advice local residents to be cautious and avoid getting out of their homes after dark. Due to sudden danger closing of schools is going on.

………… its untipical for tigers and attack domestic cattle.

Also a tiger's victims became a dogs. Normally the  reasons for visits of the predators close to humans is the lack of usual food in their habitat and need to find a new sourses of food. This winter is unusually snowless in many areas of Primorskij region. On the south was not formed any snow cover (mentioned by Mrs Olga Krasnyh).

In some human habitations was declared the state of emergency. For example in village Melcicnaya in Krasnoarmeiskij region local administration has issued warnings everywehere on the buildings:
"Dear residents, be extreemly cautious in entering of the woods and also inside the borders of the village. Do not walk after dark. Dont leave kids alone on the streets!

"Tigers without a fear walk in the our yards and tiger footprints were noticed even next to the school. Already two weeks the predators roam through our village. How many are they is hard to say" - told local women to newspaper Gazeta.ru
...... according to local witnesses whole teritory of the cemetery is covered by tiger traces.
......
Local  forest rangers visited the village and said that tigers will not attack humans and after some time will move away."

My very first video on my YouTube channel, I decided to do this on the Siberian Tiger due to looking through all the information about them. I apologize in advance for the stuttering, as I did not have any time to do any rehearsals for it, nor did I write a script for it. There may be a few inaccuracies, but I'm still proud of it nonetheless. I actually did use this thread as a source when I used to randomly browse on it. If I made any mistakes with the information, PLEASE let me know so I can make a corrections video to make up for any bad information, after all, the goal is to educate the public about animals, and spreading bad info doesn't help at all.
So again, if I made any errors, please let me know about it. If you look in the description, I listed my sources, and you'll notice I didn't link them, the reason for this is because I didn't think a certain group of people didn't deserve that kind of generosity. Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, my first video on my YouTube channel.

WHY THE AMUR TIGER MUST BE PROTECTED

BY SMEDZ

The Russian Far East, a land of freezing temperatures, and astounding beauty, is also a land of mighty hunters. They include the Eurasian Lynx, which uses its amazing stealth to lay in ambush, and can kill an animal up to 4 times its size. The Asiatic Black Bear, not the biggest bear, but is a force to be reckoned with, The Ussuri Brown Bear, or "Black Grizzly" is an incredibly powerful animal, with a large hump of muscle on the shoulders, allowing the bear to be both a great digger with his claws, and inflict damage on rivals with his claws. The Grey Wolf, great pack hunter, as a team, they can even kill a moose. At one time, dholes could be found in the region, but not anymore. Then there's the Amur Leopard, the rarest leopard in the world, but their population is growing. But in the Russian Far East, there is one predator that is feared by many, one that even the bears and wolves have to be wary of, and that animal, is none other than the Amur Tiger, a.k.a Siberian Tiger. At one time, these cats had nothing to fear, until man came with guns, and began killing tigers until the tiger population was very low. Now, the population has grown, but there are still the risks of poaching and habitat loss. Many are willing to protect them, however, there are those who could care less if the tigers went extinct. However, there are very good reasons tigers should be protected. Here is why the Amur Tiger should be saved from extinction.

1. Vital to the Ecosystem

As apex predators, Amur Tigers hunt large prey, which in this case would be Red deer, moose, Roe Deer, Wild Boar, Raccoon Dog, and even bears. By hunting herbivores, the tigers end up controlling the populations of prey animals, and that ensures that all plants aren't devoured. When a top predator is removed from the ecosystem, the herbivores will eat enough vegetations to the point where they end up destroying the ecosystems they live in, so the presence of the tiger is vital to having a healthy ecosystem.

2. Helpful to Hunters

All around the world, you will hear hunters complain about predators killing off "their" game, but in this case, there aren't too many problems between tigers and hunters. Why? the reason is because Amur Tigers have no tolerance for wolves in their territories, and will kill them, or drive them out in order to eliminate the competition. Wolves have higher success rates than tigers do, and are therefore, worse for hunters than tigers are, and conservationists have used this argument against the hunters to convince them not kill tigers, and it actually works. I should also mention that at least some hunting clubs will leave out food for the game, making it easier for the prey to survive, and therefore, easier for the tigers to survive the harsh winter. Amur Tigers will also kill the other predators in the region for the same reasons, therefore, helping hunters and farmers out a bit more.

3. Good for the Economy

Now apparently, there are now tours in Russia to see both tigers and leopards in the wild, there happens to be an entire thread about that here on the forum. With tourism comes money, and obviously that money can be used for conservation efforts, or it could be used to help communities, and this also provides jobs for people. So this is also a good reason to protect tigers throughout Asia.

4. Beneficial for other rare animals

Amur Tigers share their range with other threatened species like the Asiatic Black Bear and the Amur Leopard. By protecting the tiger's habitat, you also end up helping other endangered animals as well.

5. The weird part

Protecting Amur tiger habitat could actually be essential for mitigating climate change. Apparently, the Russian Far Eastern Forests can absorb up to literally 130,000 tons of carbon a year, so protecting tigers also helps in dealing with the climate change issue.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Amur Tiger must be protected from extinction.

Nevertheless a tiger has attacked a man on 16 February inside the forest in the area of Krasnoarmeisk.
https://tvzvezda.ru/news/vstrane_i_mire/...6-kwp2.htm

The man got a "massive cut wounds on the head, face and arms" and is currently in the hospital . He was a hunter and is possible that the tiger was already wounded in the moment of attack and that explains what has happened. The local head of unut "Amur tiger" says ironically: "the man was not in the woods just to walk... and was not gathering a mashrooms..."

A research team must find and capture an orphaned Siberian tiger cub that won't survive in the wild without its mother.

Amur tiger, who has entered a cattle chamber inside private yard of villager was shot dead by the owner. According to video the tiger was very old and no more capable of killing of wild animals, after entering the building he killed a cow. The villager who is poor and had only several cows got mad seeng the cow dying in the tigers jaws, got his gun (majority of Russian villagers in that remote area possess a hunting guns) and killed the tiger. According to video the farmer will not be hold responsible by law despite Amur tiger is protected in RFE because he has killed the animal is "self-defense". But the head of Amur tiger project complains commenting that there was no need of killing of the tiger but only calling of special tiger unit to neutralisse the predator.
In the video the farmer explains that his family members were very scared when they heard a tiger roaring in their back yard etc etc.
Also is said that poachers have killed all wild boars in the area and local tigers have no choice but to attack domestic cattle etc.

That's not gonna happen until they start doing regular awareness workshops & start providing compensation for livestock losses.
