There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Can you tell me if there is a difference between these and the assam bred longhorn version?
Both are present in Brazil but I don't know if the shorter curved variety are bred with another bovine compared to the indian version like this?

@Ashutosh have a quite adequate answer.

But at the end of the day, we can't be sure of the origin & breeds. There's just too much variety & you'd need a proper expert, not me who merely has a passing awareness on this.

Brazilian buffloes were sources from indo-china mostly, possibly Sri Lanka, Indonesia too. Portuguese traded with Dutch & French more than their rivals British in Indian ocean region.

But in India we have the such curved horn buffaloes mostly. Our longhorn breeds have their horns grow mostly downwards & a curve loop.
The ones being ridden in your photo are more likely the indochinese stock (they look more like wild asian buffaloes).
