Changes in home range size of African lions in relation to pride size

and prey biomass in a semi-arid savanna

Captured lions were, where

possible, weighed using a canvas stretcher attached to a

scale, suspended from poles attached to the front of a 44

vehicle. Mean weight (9SD) was 199-10 kg for adult

males (n4) and 143-11 kg for adult females (n6).

These weights are consistent with those published for
southern African populations (Smuts et al. 1980).
