There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

I hate to be the bearer of the bad news here, but the cubs born on April 1 at Satvirda Lion Gene Pool Centre died on April 3 night due to 'careless handling' by inexperienced first-time mother lioness Sarita.
During the post-mortem, fatal wounds were found on the chest & head of both cubs. Since mother lionesses lift their cubs in their mouth, it is possible that the lioness miscalculated the pressure.

The forest staff were giving them outside milk (not sure if it's a good idea, maybe she wasn't feeding them enough) and the cubs seemed healthy after birth.

Lion Gene Pool project to boost their genetic
diversity has 4 captives in semi-wild, 2 lions Avon(the father) & Nagraj with 2 lionesses Sarita & Parvati, collected from various corners of Greater Gir at their facility in Barda Wildlife Sanctuary near Porbandar.

It's a commendable endeavour & hope they overcome these snags soon. Those are as genetically diverse cubs you'll get, can't have more of them dying off...
