@Spalea  actually it's reverse. India once is lion country ancestor to modern lion subspecies, then to both the lion and wanhesian tiger.

Both gone extinction after that. Asiatic lion came recently in early holocene and then Bengal tiger together with Asian Lion. So over all in both of the times, lions came first. India is haven for both of them coz obviously it is once a part of Gondwanaland which is rich with grassy and dry environment with, then after collision with Eurasia, south east Asian jungles and forests too spread across India, the thing that favoured to give this climate is the Himalayas favored the flourishing of forest from east Asia but many areas of India still were plenty with savanna. So India is a mixed environment favoring both animals. Reply
