Historically since ancient times India has been more lion-centric nation than tiger-centric. In Rigveda lion is mentioned much more frequently, lion is crafted on the Ashoka pillar and a lion on background of rising sun was the official flag of Mughal army as a symbol of bravery (not tiger). The Mughals and the British exterminating the lions were the ones who made India tiger-centric. This is a later phenomenon. Kipling with his "Jungle book" also played a huge role in this tendency.
If Indian people want to achieve again greatness they have to revive the significance of the lion in their minds in same degree as significance of the tiger.
