One of the longest surviving lions of Gir, nicknamed "Maulana" because of his very "friendly" behavior towards people, passed away on 17th November 2016. He was around seventeen years, which could be unique record for a wild lion.
Maulana and his brother "Kamlesh" (or Pattavalo, as he was radio collared), ruled vast territory for several years, fought grueling battles to protect many prides in their area. We were worried about old aged Maulana, when Kamlesh passed away before a couple of years.
