There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

This is probably because in the last 1-1,5 decade there have been several legendary male coalitions that have ruled extremely successfully, dominated prides and were able to raise a lot of offsprings with great bloodlines. Just the good old well-known examples: the Notches, 4km's, Lolparpit and Olbarnoti, Old Sand River males, Romeo&Clawed, Bob&Ziggy Marley, the Musketeers, Old Black Rock Males, Olekiti&Olerai, etc.. Most of today's coalitions in the Masai Mara are the descendants of these males. I think, the top 3 most sussessful coalitions were the Notches, 4'km Blackie and Lipstick, and Lolparpit & Olbarnoti; these had/have the most descendants by far and they were probably among the most successful males with the strongest genes ever in all of Mara's history. These strong genes resulted in large coalitions. Indeed, not so many single or paired male lions have prides recently - among the prides that are more prominents, only the Fig Tree Boys and Halftail&Logol have been able to rule successfully in pairs so far and they were also able to take over without any fights (and I don't know about prides with single males now).

I would also be interested in it.
And also in Fang, so what happened to him finally? I'm afraid he's gone...They also were a great pair along with his half-brother - the impressive Short-Tail - known as ex-Kichwa males (sons of the old Moniko males Mzee&Lolalai presumably).

The guide who filmed the interaction between Olalashe, Kijana, and Fang said in a video filmed not long after that one stated that he believed that they had permitted Fang to escape with the female he was with, which started the whole thing. He said both were missing, but that is the last I heard. That was such an incredible video, and one thing is certain, Olalashe was an enormous beast of a lion, for sure.
