As far as asian lions are concerned, i have found out another way of indirectly comparing their relative size to people using other measuring intermediaries than cars..

There's a metre-gauge rail track that passes through the Gir landscape. The distance between the railway lines along the sleepers is exactly 1 metre. 
There are a few images of local people railway posing on said railway lines...

Raju the Great, the largest of Gir during his time. Image was taken when he was old & ousted (died within a year).
