There's been a lot of activity on a bison carcass in the Yellowstone River over the last few days. From what I was told the bison drowned while trying to cross the river 12 days ago. The carcass remained untouched until it was discovered by a grizzly on Monday. Since then, large male grizzlies have been visiting the carcass most often during the early morning and late evening and one big grizz has even laid claim to the carcass.

This formidable old grizzly has had control of the carcass for the last few days. As explained by Bear Management, this bear was recently captured in a research operation and is currently 21 years old and weighs 460 pounds. I'm not certain if this big boy will maintain control of the carcass indefinitely, but until then he's enjoying his prize. He certainly deserves it.
