Forward from (https://wildfact.com/forum/topic-indian-...9#pid83599), it is often thought that the last Asiatic cheetahs in India were killed by Maharajah Ramanuj Pratap Singh Deo (who is also notorious for killing 1,360 tigers: https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/la...ction-plan, https://www.tribuneindia.com/2009/200907...nature.htm) of the Central Indian Princely State of Surguja (now part of Chhattisgarh) in 1947:

Actually, the last record that I know of was of a female cheetah sighted in 1951 in what is now the Koriya District of Chhattisgarh State (Divyabhanusinh (1999) The End of a Trail: the Cheetah in India: https://books.google.com/books/about/The...edir_esc=y). It is worth mentioning that in this area is Guru Ghasidas National Park, which is contiguous with Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, and yes, this is a potential tiger territory (https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/o...147726.ece, https://web.archive.org/web/201201202324...t_2010.pdf), though no tiger was sighted between October 2008 and May 2009.
