There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. MALAMALA TODAY: August 23rd. All eyes were on eastern Flockfield this morning with the discovery of an unidentified male lion, the remains of a buffalo kill and at least 20 riled up hyenas. We don't believe the aging male made the kill, perhaps lionesses did and he chased them off or perhaps it was the hyenas. Either way, the mob of hyenas grew over the course of the day and eventually they chased the male off (the gum around the males bottom teeth is severely swollen). Guests at the sighting had front row seats to the exhilarating ordeal and just to add to the madness, the Split Rock male leopard appeared on the scene but took one look at the chaos and moved off. Other lion sightings: 2 of the Manyelethi males were found at West Street Bridge and then began making their way towards eastern Flockfield. The 6 lionesses of the Kambula pride spent the day at Sand Pit Crossing were they had a brief but close-up interaction with a hippo. The Marthly pride killed a nyala bull close to Main Camp- they too had several hyenas for company. The 2 Avoca males were viewed in the southern parts of Charleston.
