I don't think that's a given, DM Majingalane was probably the smallest but he was the clear leader and the most dominant, same goes for Nsuku of the Birminghams, or even the Mbiri males with Shaka the more dominant one. I think it's usually the male with the darkest mane who tends to be dominant, not necessarily the biggest, though usually the male with the darkest mane is also the biggest as they usually have better genetics among their coalition mates. The smaller males are usually more aggressive because they always get pushed around by others and some of them make up for the lack of size by being extra aggressive, not all of them though so even that changes from individual to individual.
