There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
Seeing the unbeliavable display of strength by the 2 Othawas subadults as they chased off 4 Manghenis before the tides turned and they got chased themselves makes me wonder about how much the environment affects a lion's behavior, and how it affects them exactly, as compared to genetics.
It's usually said how lions like Solo or the Nkuhuma male never became very confident ( though I think people exaggerate, nobody mentions how Solo and Cleo chased off the 2 nomadic Mapogos or how NK fought Tumbela 1v1 ) the reason given is that they had very harsh lives which fair enough it might be the case, though incredibly, the opposite seems to happen with the Othawa subs, despite having a much harsher and traumatic life than either NK or Solo, they display such strength and confidence that I've never seen anywhere. Like seriously who has ever seen 2 orphan subadults barely above 2yo chase off 4 adult, experient and very aggressive lionesses? What other subadults less than 2yo get to fight 2 adult lionesses while the father they hardly had any connection to was fighting an adult male at the same time in a 3v3? It's unreal.
Though, rather than the environment making them tough, it could just be down to genetics, they might just have been born with remarkable strength, I suppose we'll never know, but regardless of what happens from now on, these 2 are definitely legends already.
