There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.
I think it was just a random scuffle. Lionesses den on their own so it makes no sense for both Ximhungwes to be present. Though they do hide in densites if they want to avoid a fight.
A few days is also awfully quick to go back into mating.
As for what doomed the cubs, assuming they existed.
I believe that as one group of males spend time with the Ximhungwe pride. The others would be near laying low and waiting their opportunity. So if one of the lionesses breaks off to tend to her litter. She could have easily drawn the attention of those other males.
This would have either prevented her from checking up and feeding the cubs or lead the male lion to them. Either way putting the cubs at risk of death or starvation.
