There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

Legolas the cheetah was the largest ever recorded.

The giant of the cheetah world weighed a whopping 71 kg with stomach content https://m.facebook.com/CheetahConservationBotswana/posts/10153230339959386

and 69 kg without stomach content Of the four, Legolas was the first caught. An astonishingly big boy, he weighed 153 pounds, making him 16.5 pounds heavier than any other cheetah that CCB had captured in twelve years of work with 100 cats. https://wildnet.org/the-legacy-of-the-record-breaking-cheetah-legolas/

An acoustic analysis of purring in the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) and in the domestic cat (Felis catus)

The cheetah (Caine) was a male, 7 years old at the time of the recording (11 December 2009) and weighing 67.5 kilos (i.e. an exceptionally big cheetah). He was recorded in his enclosure at Dell Cheetah Centre, next to his shelter, in a setting very familiar to the animal. Caine is a constant purrer, and also a very loud purrer, and can easily be heard at a distance of more than 40 meters in an outdoor setting with background noises. Video duration was 1m55s. Film captures and a detailed description of the data collection are given above in Plate 1.

Regional variation in body size of the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus)

Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) show considerable variation in body size across their fragmented geographical range spanning throughout Africa and into Asia (Caro 1994). Klein (1986) found carnassial length to vary with latitude, adhering to Bergmann's rule that individuals tend to be larger in cooler climates. Cranial measurements suggest that individuals from North Africa are smaller than those from sub-Saharan Africa (Saleh et al. 2001). Within sub-Saharan Africa, Marker and Dickman (2003) found various morphological traits to vary in size across study sites.

Morphometric measurements (X ̄ ± SD) taken from adult cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) in Botswana and Namibia that showed significant regional variation (Botswana: n = 18–20 for males and 14–15 for females; Namibia: n = 81–94 for males and 38 for females).
