There is a world somewhere between reality and fiction. Although ignored by many, it is very real and so are those living in it. This forum is about the natural world. Here, wild animals will be heard and respected. The forum offers a glimpse into an unknown world as well as a room with a view on the present and the future. Anyone able to speak on behalf of those living in the emerald forest and the deep blue sea is invited to join.

CT1 the tiger responsible for killing at least 13 people

Shahid Pervez Khan, one of the members of the committee set up as per NTCA protocol to monitor the problem tiger, said CT1 was born and brought up in Chimur range on the outskirts of Tadoba. It moved out as a sub-adult in December 2021 and is suspected to have entered Lakhandur through Kampa, Umred-Karhandla-Paoni-Sawarla corridor.

Sources said the forest department has spent over Rs2.50 crore towards human kill compensation and another over Rs60 lakh towards monitoring and capture operations. “The tiger must have crossed Wainganga River, widened roads, highways, railway lines, canals, and agriculture fields during its entire journey,” said officials.

Forest officials told TOI, “The tiger displays abnormal behaviour. It is not settling down even as the Lakhandur range is devoid of other tigers. There is no competition, especially after the dominant male LT1 was run over by a speeding train in June this year. If the attacks continue, we will have to seek capture-cum-shoot orders as resentment is brewing among locals.”
