Perhaps during the thick of the attack by a lion or a tiger you don't feel any pain, only because you're completely stunned, shocked. There are some famous accounts, like the XIXth century famous explorer of Africa David Livingstone's one (1813-1873), who was brutaly attacked and caught by a lion and testifyed to "have been shook like a rat by a terrier dog". The pain occured after the attack, not during.

So, this is perhaps the case as concerns the preys...
