Cheetah Reintroduction in India

Whether or not the Madhya Pradesh government is ready for the Cheetah project in Kuno Sanctuary, a decision will be taken in the board meeting

The Kuno Palpur Sanctuary is the most suitable for the Cheetah project, but the state government will decide whether the Cheetah will be inhabited there. This issue is being brought in the meeting of the State Wildlife Board (State Wildlife Board). The government has formed the board and the first meeting is likely in January 2021. In view of this, the Forest Department has started making proposals for the board. Apart from this, proposals for Kharmore Breeding Project, wild buffalo of Chhattisgarh and Assam to be settled in Madhya Pradesh, shifting of three tigers and opening new sanctuaries at Burhanpur-Sagar will also be placed before the board.

Kuno Palpur National Park in Sheopur district has been prepared for the Babbar lions of Gujarat. This park is ready to settle lions since the year 2004, but the Gujarat government does not want to give lions. The lion project has not been stopped yet. Kuno Palpur has already been preferred for the Cheetah project. Not only this, the team of experts have also found Kuno to be a cheetah. Now the state government will decide whether to establish lions or leopards in Kuno. This will be discussed in a possible board meeting next month.

However, the Cheetah project is expected to be approved. Because despite all the efforts, the Gujarat government is not giving the tiger and every time it is finding a new deficiency in the preparations. Gujarat officials, who visited Kuno last year, were conditioned to meet the international criteria for lion shifting. These are 35 criteria. Of these, the Madhya Pradesh government has fulfilled about 20 criteria. The remaining criteria have to take longer to meet, which can be met even after shifting lions. Yet the Gujarat government is not ready to accept.

These proposals will also come before the board

The board meeting also proposed to bring Kharmore Breeding Project, wild buffalo from Chhattisgarh or Assam to settle in Kanha National Park, shifting of three tigers, denotifying the land of Karera and Ghatigaon Sanctuary and setting up a sanctuary in Burhanpur and Sagar districts. Have been.
