Yea, idk, to me strange part was that Buddy was never seen again after that aswell, yes he was not in greatest condition, but regardless.
Also, that anthrax incident happened few days after they came south and encountered Nharus and RR on a kill, and chased them, so as you said, other lions where in the area aswell.
Not to start an argument but it seems that the northern matimbas had more success than the southern matimbas or did the northern matimbas inherit a lot of their territory from when the coalition was at full strength? Even tho the southern matimbas lived longer

Maybe a little bit, but they where 3 prime males, not 2, which we need to take into consideration.
S.Matimbas where kinda unlucky with 5 Bboys (ironically they got ousted from Ngala by N.Matimbas), but same fate shortly after got N.Matimbas with 6 Avoca/Giraffes.

Not really actually. Looking at what they achived past 2013 when they split (so not counting takeovers of Torchwood and Koppies prides), Northern Matimbas manage to takeover only one pride (Skorro) while their southern brothers tookover briefly Styx and Kambula prides and for longer Tsalala and Othawa prides. On top of thed they were mating and could potentially sire some cubs in Mhangeni pride. Also Southern Matimbas stick to power for longer peroid of time and survived to much older age so they seem all around more succesfull to me.

Tbh Northern Matimbas seem even more unlucky. I would argue that competition Nothern Matimbas faced was more formidable than Birminghams were. Avoca/Giraffes had more numbers coampared to Birminghams and had almost at a peak age 2 massive males to lead them - old Avocas.

A video should be made of the Avoca male lions. There is three or four generation or more?
