Edited•1h Solo Beast! ??? The famous S8/Imbali male lion, the dominant male of Talamati Breakaway, and the Imbali prides was seen in a spectacular scene yesterday, marking his territory. The day before, he was in a fierce encounter with the two Black Dam males, who sometimes pursued him, and sometimes he pursued them! I never thought BDM were a strong coalition, far from it, but this is way too much if true, having so much trouble and only stalemating an lone old lion. But I'll wait to see if it's indeed true, I'm skeptical for now. I don't like to quote myself but here I am... There is nothing "fierce" about this encounter, he just ran away sensing a serious threat. Most duos will engage in this back and forth with single males when they don't have the confidence to go straight for the kill, S8 is taking a calculated risk to have his presence felt in the area to keep the BDMs at bay. He's a confident and healthy male who knows how to use his cards right as a lone male. 
Sometimes lions are just weird like that. Its also hard to believe that a pride as strong and large as the Mhangeni allowed themselves to be chased off by just the two Othawa subs. Yet it happened. Untill they realized their error and turned things around. They are afteral living beings prone to making mistakes and weird leaps in logic.
Its nice to see that both Ximhungwes have given birth now apparently. But seeing the dynamics right now. Not having much hope for the cubs. This is writen by fan page, which is deleted now looks like. He prob refered to that WE clash, where S8 returned in roaring, but run away soon as he saw 2 BDMs responding. As far as i know, new clashes after that didnt happen. At this point, 2 BDMs will not run from neither solo males, unless they are suprised and are not sure againt how many males/lions they are up against. But they know S8's cards by now very well. Its too early to judge how strong of a duo BDMs are and will become, obiviously they are stronger then solo males they faced (Mohawk, Orpen Jr., S8) and they couldnt push 3/4 Ndhzengas. Since Ndhzengas are down to 2, situation looks stale in between 2 parties.
Young male (looks like Styx floppy ear) and two young females caught a young Wildebeest and were chased off by a male and 4 females (guessing Talamatis)

He may be a bit of a pushover, but atleast he is putting himself out there looking for new coalitions and opportunities and thats to be respected.
Unlike for example Skorro. Who is stuck in the past and refusing to move on. |
